Week 25 - Wimbledon men's qualifying

I don't think singles qualifying comes out until after 6 but the doubles qualifying draw is already up:

QR1: Lewis Burton / Marcus Willis CR 475 (247+228) v (q8) Konstantin Kravchuk (RUS) / Tim Pütz (GER) CR 226 (111+115)
QR1: Dave Rice / Sean Thornley CR 461 (230+231) v (q7) Pierre-Hugues Herbert (FRA) / Adil Shamasdin (CAN) CR 225 (118+107)

The draw is out - and, from first look, pleasant it is not !

No pressure, Marcus, but you're about the only one with a reasonable first round !

There are obviously no easy draws in events like this but all in all that is pretty brutal.

H2Hs

Josh M v Williams H2H: 1-0, 6 & 2, Nottingham last week
Brydan v Authom H2H: 1-0, 3 sets, Antalya 2011
Ed v Groth H2H: 1-1, both 2 close sets, in GB Futures in successive weeks back in 2007

A pretty brutal first round (even those who have avoided seeds have drawn dangerous floaters for the most part) but at least what H2Hs there are are not too bad.

Yes. Generally, I don't comment on draws - what goes round, comes around, and all that, and no one should be looking for 'easy' draws anyway, it just distorts the ranking and gives a false impression.

BUT these do seem pretty horrible across the board - bet Liam and Luke and Ash are feeling quite jolly over in the US at this very moment . . .

Good luck tomorrow lads, for those up on the first day.

Willis and Klein would be my two choices, with Josh M definitely having a good chance (Rhyne hasn't been impressive recently).

Saw Berankis play last year against Mathieu and the grass really doesn't agree with him. That said, Alex Ward hasn't played on it much himself!

Roehampton is a funny venue four courts near the scoreboard tend to have the British players. Last year I was fortunate to see Jamie Baker and Rice beaten in round 2 qualifying is tough

Willis and Klein would be my two to get through.

Alex and Josh M next best chances.

Realistic goals are qualifying and then winning a round not winning the tournament so the draw with this goal in mind makes a huge difference .

Draw can make huge difference winning QR1 gives you confidence and settles you down prior to R2

Decent draw in the doubles but preparation since St Brieuc far from ideal but hope of course get away with it !

Brydan was serving for the set and swiftly went 15-40 down... however he reeled off four straight points to take the first 6-3

Authom has had to retire, unfortunately.

Brydan will play Kudla next, who thrashed Basilashvili 3&0.

I don't see Brydan getting past Kudla, but the 8pts will come in handy as will the extra prize money.

Dave Rice just started.
