Brilliant Sofa !!! I'm dead impressed. It says clearly 'not open to the public' - did anyone ask you ? Go for it - showing a healthy disregard for officialdom, I salute it.
(And interesting v Lewis, I thought last year he was a natural on grass, and re Jathan who I've never seen but some other people rank highly too - Jathan, get your fitness programme in place!).
Thanks, sofa.
I just went to one of the gates and said I am here for the tennis tournament and they told me to go to are car park 4 gate 20, I drove in and was not asked who I was by anyone and enjoyed a lovely few hours of tennis on a beautiful sunny day!
Men's is nout for turning up, then 8 / 16 / 25 ( effectively 35, because unlike the women's qualifiers, the men get at least R1 loser points, well I guess if they turn up there ! ).

I have to confess in conversation with Paulisi at Edgbaston that I strongly fancied Josh Milts to come through as he is in the form of his life, judged on what I saw at Nottingham, I felt Burts was the danger. Paul thought I was mad to say that ;) glad on this occasion to be proved correct.

Not the playoff winners I'd have picked before all this started, though it was very tough to call when the draw came out. If there's one (and just one) more QWC going, I assume JWH would get it, since he appears to win on all counts, i.e. higher-ranked, closer final match and lost to the top seed.

Well, I think they have two left to give. But Steve Darcis hasn't got a MD one yet (and has asked for one and after his Rafa exploit, there's some sense). So they might want to give him a Q one, I guess.
In the women's they have three left to give.
So for the women, I'd give Lisa and Freya both a WC place (Lisa was one of our best players before injury, nearly qualified for a MD WC one last year, perfectly justifiable) and Freya is one of our young stars, why not? And the two games in one day certainly didn't help either girl - Freya played six sets of tennis and Lisa had a really tough three set SF.
This would also leave one place spare.
For the men, I'd only give one to JWH. Sounds mean to James but if you give all four, for both, it becomes a bit of a precedent. And I'm not sure one can really argue that James deserves one on any other calculation (with Josh you probably can, as per the argument you make, steven). And that also would leave one place spare.

OK - you were right. It was an open half and I was surprised Marzi made the final.
Yes, I would give a QWC to JWH ahead of James for the reasons given.
If however they feel there are no other candidates putting a case forward, then I have no problem with James also getting one, even if the two losing "finalists" from the women also get one ( as I hope they do ).
Basically, I believe in just doing the most appropriate thing on each occasion. If you do that rather than tie yourself in knots about precedents or non precedents then I think you have more chance of looking to be, and indeed being, fair.

Also, there has been enough variation in the past that whatever they do this year could not really be seen as setting a precedent, I think.
If I remember right, they don't tend to leave any QWCs unfilled (i.e. going to the next direct entrants for qualifying), they just give out as many as they want to give out to other players then fill the remainder from the playoffs.

The previous years' junior champion normally gets a qualifying wild card and while I would have expected it to have been included in the initial announcement it may still happen. Quinzi isn't playing in any of the obvious alternative tournaments next week so unless he is injured (last played a couple of weeks ago) I can't see that he would not want the wild card.
