Week 24 - Israel F8 ($10,000) - Herzlia (Hard)

For the second week in a row, Luke gets Tringali in the first round. But he won last week, in three sets, so fingers crossed.

Josh, Cam and Harry should be in the MD

Not so good a Sunday for the Power:

FQR: Luke Power UNR lost to (q6) Ram Kapach (ISR) WR 1927 (CH 1824 last month) by 2 & 2

L32: (4) Josh Ward-Hibbert WR 743 v Ben Patael (ISR) WR 1250 (= CH; junior WR 180)
L32: (6) Cam Norrie WR 770 v (Q) Aviv Darmon (ISR) WR 1601 (= CH)
L32: Harry Meehan WR 999 v (2) Bar Tzuf Botzer (ISR) WR 591 (CH 583 in Feb)

Good to see Cam in the draw, hope he's ok now. Harry draws a very short straw again though.

Can someone explain to me why JWH is in Israel and not playing the grass court season given how well he played on the surface last year?

Excellent question - and one that follows up slightly on your point re Kyle's programming schedule (which I agreed with).

I think that the NTC have just given a blanket order to JWH, Liam and Luke.

I don't really understand it for Luke and Liam (although I know that other people have said that it might well make sense for them and i can see their point).

I most certainly don't understand it for Josh. It's completely daft. And I'm not surprised he's dragging his heels in Israel. Mind you, since joining the NTC, it's all been one direction only.

I'm guessing he went chasing points in easier tournaments with plenty of points to defend. It is notoriously difficult to pick up points in the challengers/Queens qualifiers as they are so strong.

I'm sure you will see the like of JWH, George C, Harry etc in the grass events post Wimbledon.

He can chase points in easier tournaments for the other 11 months of the year. The guy's game is built for grass and I really cannot see one good reason for him not to have played qualifying at both Nottingham challengers and then the wild card play off for Wimbledon qualifying.

Harry put up a good fight against the 2nd seed but to no avail. Here's the round-up - Cam's R2 opponent still to be decided.

L32: (4) Josh Ward-Hibbert WR 753 lost to Ben Patael (ISR) WR 1249 (= CH; junior WR 180) by 6-4 6-7(6) 6-1
L32: (6) Cam Norrie WR 711 beat (Q) Aviv Darmon (ISR) WR 1620 (CH 1601 last month) by 3 & 1
L32: Harry Meehan WR 998 lost to (2) Bar Tzuf Botzer (ISR) WR 593 (CH 583 in Feb) by 2-6 6-2 6-4
