Could Colin and Ross not have used a PR to get in, or have they already reached their limit for the year (surely not?) Maybe there is a limit of 1 or 2 per Grand Slam?

Would think that Jamie D / Muller are in line for one of the remaining Doubles WCs, especially if they go deep at Nottingham.

Colin and Ross could have used a PR but better for them to get a wild card here and save the PR for elsewhere.

Who do we all think for the other two singles WC's? I think Muller should get one. Does the Notts challenger winner usually get one also?

The winners of both Nottingham challengers always get main draw wild cards and so who ever wins this week will get one. If the last couple of years are anything to go by the final one might just be given to the next direct acceptance.

Muller getting a singles WC would make some sense: he's had a very good start to the year and is coming back from injury.

Delighted - despite all the issues around WCs - at the way the singles ones have turned out .... except for the MDWC for Mr Edmund (would have given him a QWC as per his ranking) and the lack of QWC for Ms Webley-Smith. Hope she wins the QWC playoff. Will be interesting to see what happens with the doubles.

Emily would have got a QWC had she won a match on grass this season so far and she hasn't won a main round match for 3 months now so off form.

Heard that Azarenka has requested a WC into Eastbourne.  Would she need a WC to get into Wimby at this stage?

Not if she has already entered...

Eastbourne WC means less WC's for our girls.

There's a lovely piece about Dan Smethurst in The Independent: www.independent.co.uk/sport/tennis/dan-smethursts-wimbledon-wild-card-a-tribute-to-tireless-work-ethic-9530708.html

Thank you, Mr Newman: nice to see a paper say something pleasant about a well-deserved WC!

Nice article smile

I was wondering if Dan had ever even played the qualies . .  Seemingly not. I know he wasn't there last year. It's quite a leap - straight into the main draw. Good luck to the man.

Yes, it is quite a leap. And he hasn't had much grass court play this year - presume that he'll be doing the qualies for next week's ATP, as it would be good to get some more practice in. From his point of view, it would probably be better if the tournament were on hard courts, where he's been so strong. But the boost in terms of both experience and financial security should be good, whatever the result of the actual match.

Skupski brothers  deserved so not looking good for Marcus & Lewis .

It would have eased their funding problems and helped keep a promising partnership going that could be utilised for Davis cup in future years

Does Jamie D need one ?

Jamie played Aegon match for A1 pharmaceuticals LTC  v bromley last month and he's hoping to fit in our last aegon match on Sunday V Esporta surrey . A win would secure divisional title ( SE region national tier ) & qualify Jamie D for the finals .

Spectators welcome bromley indoor tennis centre ( newstead ) 12-18.00

Marcus Willis

Matt short

Jamie Delgado

Harry Meehan

Plan to pair Jamie & Marcus the master & the appentice together for first time

There are four more wildcards to be given in the MD doubles and two wildcards to be given in the qualifiyng doubles - why do you think Marcus and Lewis might not get one of those?

I don;t think the aim of wildcards is to 'fund' people (although I realise it can have that effect).

I'm very happy Marcus got his qualifying singles wildcard, and so is Marcus from the sound of it - good luck to him (and all the others) and may it help set the bar higher for the year to come.

Naturally With my experience of helping fund players there is never enough money particularly WCs should be awarded based ability to progress but someone like DS getting a WC main draw is potentially career changing as he wasn't born with a golden spoon in  his mouth .

I think if Lewis /MW were getting one would be authorised already and failure to progress at notts probably blew it !

Now it's about hoping for a good draw in singles quali's

If MW got into maindraw becomes self funding & i could start helping another player

O
