RE: Entries Week 25 - 16/06/2014

More excited by Kyrgios and Kokkinakis than Kyle at the moment. But that's probably more to do with how much they've played recently. I think Davis Cup has been good for development but poor for Kyle's ranking this year.

Anyone know ticket prices/general availability for Eastbourne?

Kyle is indeed still only 19 and remains a very good prospect, how good is a story still to unfold.

But he does seem to have various parties ( management company etc ) that really bat for him, whether always in his tennis development interests I am not convinced.

The word 'messy' has been used about his schedule this year ( possibly not helped by Davis Cup duties ), and it does seem very at odds with what seemed a well planned campaign last year with Colin Beacher.

Certainly, to my mind, at times the hype so far has leapt ahead of the achievement and I was amazed at the clamour from various parties for him to play Davis Cup vs USA.

Fortunately Kyle himself seems a likeable lad with a good head on his shoulders, which he may need further if there's a little Andy / Greg politics. I am pretty far from convinced about Greg as his ongoing coach, forgetting any Andy issues, but I admit most of that is from impressions and hearsay.

When I express views about such as all his WCs and possible overhype, that is certainly nothing personal against Kyle, and I continue to wish to see him strongly progress.

As usual Indiana you put across a measured and reasonable position. I am somewhat less subtle. I think that the handling of Kyle's season has been a total and utter farce and what looks like preferential treatment is actually proving to be a detriment. I am struggling to find the words to express just how dismayed I am that he is now being coached by Greg Rusedski and those words that do spring to mind would be inappropriate for such a civilised setting as this forum. I am still confident that Kyle will have a good career but I fear that those around him are doing him more harm than good at the moment.

I would agree with RJA on this the Rusedski thing is a disaster, the scheduling worse and the Wild Cards making it worse. He would frankly have been better off playing more 15ks to be honest.

I assume Rusedski will be with him in Nottingham rather than on TV at Queens and then Wimbledon.

Has there been a reason for Andy's dislike of Greg? I know many disagree with the guy as a pundit but I'm charmed by his passion and energy regarding the game.

No, but I can understand it. Andy generally seems to prefer "laid-back" types - which Greg most certainly is not: he is a motormouth like Brad Gilbert and I think Andy had enough of them to last a lifetime! Greg's over-enthusiasm grates on my nerves too.

I think it is pretty obvious that Andy's idea of a practice session involves him and his hitting partner playing mostly without interference, just occasional input from the coach and quick debrief at the end. Greg strikes me as the kind of coach who would want to be very pro-active during training sessions making constant suggestions and comments about what his player should be doing.

No real surprise that poor Tom F has had to withdraw from Belgium , after retiring in his tournament this week.

Well, I still think that Liam and Luke not doing the grass season is 'bizarre' at best, but - if they want 'cheap' points - it's certainly true that the 10k in Buffalo is one of the easiest I've seen for a long time.

Liam is top seed, Ash third seed, Luke is fifth. Toby's in at number 12 and the last direct entry is WR 1541. It doesn't come much easier than that . . .

The difficulty with the US summer futures is that you can get UNR or low-ranked university players who are giving tennis a whirl during the summer holidays ...
