The women's draw may have the appearance of a bit of a seed massacre with half the seeds out from the top half after R2 and a further 3 from the bottom half after R1, with of course the big headlines of Serena and Li Na out.
However, just looking at the draw, seeds 3 to 11 are all still in situ, well for now anyway.
I thought Mary Pierce was extremely interesting in her analysis - she not only highlighted (in a positive manner) Heather's weak areas but also suggested specific drills that she should do - very focused, with a fine eye for detail. I wonder if Diego will listen ? Or agree?
Sorry back on topic - I think Heather played really well. Halep is a stronger version of Hev but considering she is 4th seed the gulf didnt look huge. I think Heather is playing back at top 50 level at the moment and whilst I dont expect great things on the grass, I think she could start climbing quite quickly when she gets back on to hards.
The good news is she seems to have shaken off the Glandular fever and looks fighting fit again, with heavier groundies and a tidy net game which looks really polished. I was really impressed with her performance in the second set but think she never really felt in her heart of hearts she would win or knew how to really hurt Halep.
Was very tough vs Halep. Currently if they play anything near their normal, Halep wins, unsurprisingly.
I agree though that Hev competed well without ever really looking like she might win it.
Another good week or so overall in a very good recovery year. I'd say that she is generally now WR 40 to 50 level, and getting more towards the WR 40 level, so hopefully will maybe at least threaten her CH of WR 39 before the year is out.
I agree about Mary Pierce. Genuinely interesting when she talks and she doesn't too much. And most certainly doesn't comment as if folk have very bare knowledge of the game. Others could learn. I hope she is around a lot in the future and maybe on other outlets.
