RE: Week 21 - Roland Garros men's qualifying

Hurrah for Mr Cox and Mr Ward. Must be a great feeling for Mr Cox to have managed to get to RG by right and won his first match. Great stuff.

Tremendous effort by Dan C!!!  Beating a player ranked well above you on your least favourite surface in a GS is something to be proud of.  Would love to have a match report.....Next round will be tough, a top 100 clay court specialist.  However, Paolo Lorezi's last two outing have been underwhelming:  Clay court losses to the world no 98 and the world no 157.

If I had been more on the ball this morning, I would have been glued to the Bet365 site ready to place a bet on Evo's match if I deemed the odds favourable. I'm sure there that there are occasional anomalies in "sub prime" events such as GS qualies.

Its been a long time since I've been to RG.  It would make a lovely couple of days, not that expensive with Eurostar either.....There is talk of moving RG elsewhere, perhaps Versailles as the current ground is just too small and can't be expanded.

QR2: James Ward WR 169 v (q21) Ryan Harrison (USA) WR 129 (CH 43 in 2012)

H2H 0-2 - Ryan won 3 & 3 at the Nottingham Challenger in 2010 and in 3 sets in QR1 here at Roland Garros in 2011

Court 17 tomorrow not before 15.00 BST

Dan's R2 opponent is yet to be decided but Dan isn't scheduled to play QR2 tomorrow anyway.

Nice story about Emilio Gomez, the Ecuadorean 22 year-old and son of Andres Gomez, the Roland garros winner back in 1990, who played first round qualies today and won

www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/news/articles/2014-05-20/201405201400594627654.html

(and he's another product of US college tennis).

Congrats too to some of the wildcard players who won today (NOT opening the can of worms about wildcards again, just nice to see). Lokoli (the kid from Corsica who beat the Grig) and Kokkinakis made me smile. And, of course, to Mr. McGee.

He was talking about Evo, not Dan Cox.

I remember watching that match!  That shows my age!!!  I was really impressed by the Gomez BH, a single handed lefty that he nailed up the line with regularity to beat none other than Andre Agassi!

There are not that many fathers and sons who have both been tennis pros.  There is our Ross & Paul Hutchins, Taylor and Phil Dent, Sand & Fred Stolle, I think Vijay Amritrage had a tennnis playing son.  I bet there are more....

No way James will get on today. They're already over three hours late. And the forecast is pretty grim.
