Dan goes down 6-3, 6-1.  Given this is just his second match on clay in the last 12 months, I don't think we had high expectations.  Time to get onto the grass!

Well, that was short and not that sweet.

But not surprising . . . . as you say, stevemcqueen, Dan's no lover of clay . ..

James was a break up but got pegged back to 2*-3

Vamos, Dino !

Think Dan probably treats the clay court swing as his off season. Hoping (and expecting) to see a different Dan now that he will be back on Grass/Hard over the next few months.

Wardy back up a break and now serving at *4-2

I think the fact that Dan only played one other match on clay this year even when he was bound to be seeded in qualies here probably says it all.

Actually, someone (@_Manish7) asked on Twitter: "Do you know what niggle or Injury Dan has been nursing. He's pulled out of a few tourneys this year after a great start to the year" - my immediate thought was "isn't that just Dan being Dan?" but you never know - if it had been virtually any other player, we'd have assumed an injury niggle, so that might have something to do with it.

The scores seemed to stop for a while at 30-0 on Albot's serve but have now ticked over to 6-3 *5-5

James has played RG qualies 3 times before (2010-12) - each time, his QR1 match went to 3 sets and each time he ended up losing. So finishing it off in two might be an idea!

Who knows with Evo, he undoubtedly did have a knee problem and has had some recent withdrawals, so one shouldn't automatically assume no issue, when folk would re other players.

The trouble is his history, and he has got history !
