QR1: Oli Golding WR 332 v Jason Kubler (AUS) WR 355 (CH 268 in 2012) (*)
QR1: Alex Ward WR 365 v (wc) Evgeny Korolev (KAZ) WR 562 (CH 46 in 2010)

(*) 1-1 - both at junior Wimbledon, Oli won in 3 sets in 2010, Kubler in 2 in 2011

Hard to predict which way Oli's match could go. Kubler's 2011 win at Wimbledon came at a time when Oli was very upset after the sudden death of his coach. But they've never played each other on clay either so who knows.

Oli will only earn any points if he reaches the FQR, and then only 6, and he may have to get past Kyrgios (WR 151) in the next round. He would then be on course for a possible encounter with top qualifying seed Michael Russell (WR 96) for a place in the MD.

Great to see both Oli and Alex giving ATP qualies a go. They're both definitely 2 of the Brits that I feel have the potential to push well on up the rankings and this will serve as a solid test for them both and good experience. Fingers crossed for some solid performances and a win or 2 from them both.

Alas, lost the second 4-6 and has just been broken for the first game of the third. Still one can remain hopeful - it is after all an ATP tournament. (Come on, Mr Ward. Remember that these are your favourites.)

Really like the fact Ollie is playing on clay too, rather than switching to grass early or heading back to the UK. Very impressed with his schedule this year. Giving himself the best chance of making a career out of the game.
