If they are ever going to reform the "lower-down" points and money system, Challenger qualies would be a great place to start. It is absurd that you could potentially win two matches - one of them possibly over a top 200 player - and yet, if you lost the 3rd, get no points and no prize money. Surely it would make sense to give a point for a 1st round win in qualies and 2 for a 2nd round one, so that it was equivalent to Futures. I'm sure others have proposed this before ... but maybe if one thinks/says it often enough ...
Another thing that I think would help would be to have a lower level o ATP event, perhaps an ATP 175 or ATP150 with commensurately reduced points and prize money. This might allow having 4 events in a single week and would allow tennis to get to locations that it doesn't usually visit. The recent innovation of giving the top seeds byes in smaller events has been a good idea as well. It allows a top player to arrive on Wednesday afternoon to play a 2nd round match on Thursday which will give them more time and less time on the road.
Who else has ideas for spreading the points and prizes differently?
Re the points distributions, I do rather like the current ATP main draw distributions, and it was good to see the WTA move to largely copy this rather than their previous far too linear ( and sometimes backwards ! ) awards for progressions through rounds.
I do certainly agree though that there may be a case for the ATP introducing challenger qualifying points, perhaps not dissimilar to the points awarded for the women above 25Ks.
Qualifying general standard in ATP Challengers can be very variable, but maybe wouldn't be so variable if there was some reward other than for actually qualifying ( both monetary and points ).
