RE: Week 20 - Romania F1 ($10,000) - Galati (Clay)

Jack was broken. Ended up playing a tie break and lost the tie break 7-5

Still a good week for Jack and some points to boot. He just needs to keep fit now as the talent is there.

Don't think he's got any positive points.

He's got 10 coming off on the 26th so this will limit the damage very slightly but no more, unfortunately.

However, big picture, nice to see him winning a couple of matches and, yes, fingers crossed he's fully fit now.

Tom and Jack got rather crushed in their doubles:

QF: Andrei CIUMAC (MDA) / Maxim DUBARENCO (MDA) [1] 6-0 6-1 Tom ALLEN (GBR) / Jack CARPENTER (GBR)

Surely Pouille could've seen out another couple of days then headed home for a week of rest/preparation? Not a lot of class with his actions this week.

Completely agree cry

And now he says he's off to Nice tomorrow for the Open there.

Seriously unimpressed.

It gets better. He recovers from his withdrawal forcing "injury" to recover in the Nice ATP250 qualies...... And then goes and qualifies. Disgusting IMO. Surely this is a reportable incident.......

I don't know whether it's even against the rules (since Nice is next week's tournament) but I do think something should be done about this - players always take a risk of a tough first round draw when they make a trip anywhere, but things like this are just ridiculous and completely unfair to the other players.

I don't understand why Pouille played here though - it would have made more sense if it had been in France, i.e. near Nice or near his base. Unless he's based in Romania ...

Since apparently any player ranked outside the top 150 can enter a futures, nothing can currently be done about that.

But his very dodgy withdrawal ( due to what appalling injury / illness ? ) and rapid recovery and reappearance in Nice is taking the proverbial.

Am sure he's not based in Romania smile

From what I understood, as I posted somewhere, the French tweets say he entered here just to get some guaranteed wins on clay - apparently he hasn't won a match since February. Haven't looked but I guess there were no other clay tournaments nearby ????

I think it's disgraceful.

(NB Did anyone find a confirmation of that 150 rule? The guidebook on the site doesn't seem to make any mention of it, unless I've completely missed it).
