He hasnt changed nationality he is still a British Citizen just one hacked off with the rules around who you can and cant represent in the DC. He is now merely representing the team he is allowed to represent in the DC.

The decision is an easier one for him as he is a decent player who doesnt necessarily need the other fringe benefits being a British Tennis player bring and which are absolutely necessary for slightly weaker players to survive ie. grass court wildcards.

He has definitely been a net contributor in terms of his attitude, role modelling and the interest he has brought to British Tennis whilst a British Tennis player.

Totally agree with Oakland. And it is for that reason that I think we should still see him as a Brit and report his results.

Imagine divorcing your wife, and then saying you are divorcing for X reason and that there is not another women, and then one day after divorce starting a relationship with another lady.

Out of respect he should not represent Slovenia or Slovakia or which ever one it is.

Yes he got Uk passport and tried to represent GBR, and it fell through at DC level. I would respect him if he then said, I will still fly gbr flag, as I am now British not Slov.

I'd be happy if Slov now refused to select him. How can his heart be in it.

His twin brother and close friend are the coach/captain and assistant coach of the DC team. I doubt they wouldn't select him.

I hadnt made the association, ie his twin was so heavily involved. It explains a lot and why he so keen to play DC. Good luck to Slovenia

A nice article from Ali Bedene, confirming he's still keeping his GB passport, still got Nick C (our Brit) as his coach, and that the decision was purely an ITF one, not his choice as such:

Thanks CD. I'm continuing to support him, I think he's had a bad deal from the ITF changing their minds when he'd already got the ball rolling. Maybe he'll change back after he's played in the Olympics/DC.

Well Aljaz has got his wish, he is nominated in the Slovenian team to play Poland. I wish him luck, and will continue to root for him wherever he plays (except against Brits of course !)

For a one line explanation, Croatian Alja Tomljanovic has been allowed to swap to Australia and represent them in the Fed Cup, because here Aussie passport application was made before the rule change in 2015. Aljaz was denied the right to play for GB despite being in the same position.
