That's all great and admirable. However he does say in the article " I honestly don't want to have a sponsor patch which I don't believe in" - but the one on the other sleeve is The Sun which is a bit worrying.

To be fair, the DC and the Olympics are important to many players and the authorities by not letting him play for GB and having several tribunals over it, I feel they have missed out. Ok, Bedene is never going to set the world on fire, he is a decent top 35-55 player and he is most likely only going to be able to play Olympics in 2020 given he is now 28.
I do hope he is happy with his decision.
That leaves GB with 2 top 100 players - Kyle and Andy.
I agree, flamingowings. The Davis Cup decision was a real shame, especially for the sake of three weeks or so. Individual tennis is a lonely sport, it's sad if you have no team or nation to play for on top of that, even in the few events where it's possible.
Good luck to him. Always enjoyed watching him play, seems very well-liked by his British team and mates, hope his injuries are a thing of the past and he carries on playing well.
(And yes, our top 100 men is looking a little skinny ..... mind you, the women isn't any better.....)
Mods- can you move this thread to general tennis discussion. thanks.
Not until Jan 1st
And I for one won't move it even then. Izzy Wallace has a thread in the section, which I also think is fine.
No huge deal either way, but unnecessary in my opinion. Might as well leave it where it will be easiest found if anyone wants to look back in the future for any reason. Or even add info.
I wish Aljaz the best of luck. I agree with CD about tennis being lonely, and I can see why Aljaz would want to be able to play in a team. I don't think that he's taken the mick at all, he's lived here for alot longer than he was a citizen, and as far as I concerned he wanted to be British and made that decision for the right reasons. He's been shafted by the ITF changing the rules on him at the last minute. I for one will always follow him with interest and support him. He's didn't get direct LTA funding, and helped raised the profile of our sport, so all the best and no hard feelings.
I, too, wish him all the best - and will continue to support him generally. Have admired his work ethic, the way he's worked at fitting in and supporting Great Britain, and the way he's handled negative comments. He was treated unfairly by the ITF, and one can't hold a desire to play tennis' two biggest 'national' competitions against him.
