Week 19 - ITF ($10K) - Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt - Hard

Just as I posted that, the scoreboard ticked over again.

15-0 .. 30-0 .. 40-0 .. 3 MPs

We have a !

FINAL: (6) Katie Boulter WR 772 beat Eden Silva WR 1093 by 4-6 6-4 7-5

3rd time lucky for Katie - she wins her first 10K singles title and will break the top 600 on Monday week

A great week for Eden too - she will jump around 200 places over the next 2 weeks into the top 900

The first time she served for the match, she got broken. By the time of th post you quoted, it was the second time she was serving for it, hence the "again" - it wasn't that unclear, was it? confuse

I didn't quote your whole post, here it is in full. It was the fact that you said Katie was serving for the match after you said she had won it. wink

Oh, well spotted - I have no idea how that line ended up at the end of the post instead of near the beginning! confuse

great that Katie gets the 'bogey' of the first win off her back.

And I hope that her LTA coach was watching and notes that Eden is only 4 months older than Katie.

Not trying to make too much out of it but, given the score, and the closeness in age, there's an argument to be made ., . .

I remember when I was at Wrexham a few years ago, and I spent a bit of time with a coach, he told me that Eden had all the basic fundamentals with which to work with in order to make it in the pro game. I felt that her lack of stature might hold her back but pleased to see that he's been proved right and Eden does appear on the right track.

Great to finally get over the line for Boults, she probably needs a bit of a break now, but a very encouraging start to her pro career also.

As the week 18 points get added, Katie breaks into the WTA singles and doubles top 700s, up 63 places to 651 in singles and up 77 to 660 in doubles

Eden also jumps to new career highs, up 66 to 1027 in singles and up 33 to 711 in doubles

Obviously, both should see even bigger singles rises next Monday when the week 19 points covered in this thread get added, breaking into the top 600 and top 900 respectively

Interesting to hear. Tx.

Don't know about a break; isn't Katie off to play the juniors at Roland Garros? I remember her saying it was in her plans at the start of the year.
