That's a nice draw for JoKo - a pretty 'easy' first round and then the seed she's due to meet is heather's doubles partner, Fichmann, who is definitely playable.

See that Nicola Slater has a WC in the doubles too.

It must be difficult for Heather playing so soon after Ballys news I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't play well this week I be flat playing tennis. Alternatively she may find an extra gear because of this. I'm sure I'm not the only one who isn't really bothered by any of this weeks tennis at the moment because of the sad news about Bally. It's only a game after all.

Edited in Heather's R1 opponent now that qualifiers/LLs have been placed. Just doing these draws on auto-pilot at the moment so apologies if there are even more mistakes than usual. I'm sure it's going to be very though for some players to play this week and I don't envy any of them having to do so but everyone deals with these things in their own way, so it as Jaggy says, it might give some of them an extra spur.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Judy Murray has spoken to several of the British women players today especially those playing. I am sure Bally would have wanted them to play on. Of course there is still the funeral to come....

Probably good for Hev emotionally and physically to start with a doubles match.

Nicky Slater was due to play the no.2 seeds in the doubles but they must have withdrawn as now playing alternates

Nik and partner lose the first set 75. Went with serve until *55 when they were broken from game point up.

They have made no inroads on their opponents serve at any point so far.

And broken from game point up at the start of the second set too. 0-1*. So that's probably that.

And again from game point up. 0-3*.

Change of continent not resulted in a change of fortune it seems, even with a bit of luck with their original opponents pulling out.

Just not happening at all for Nik this year. I really hope that she can somehow turn it around.

After holding the opening game, Heather has missed 7 game points in her next two to fail to consolidate her breaks. GGM 2/2 on her break points.

3-2*

Hev broke again to lead *4-2 but then got broken back again right away. GGM then ended a run of 6 breaks in a row by holding serve in the 8th game. *4-4

Takes her third game point to hold for 5-4*

Obviously I'd love her to win this, and given the chances she has had so far she really should, but a real dogfight on the red stuff on her comeback should stand her in good stead as she moves forward.

Two set points...

Takes the first and leads 64 *00

Great job so far Heather. Keep going.

Looks as if Heather is maybe understandably a bit rusty, particularly lacking matchplay on the bigger points.

But yes, such a ( hopefully ultimately winning ) match shouldn't do her any harm.
