RE: Week 19 - $50K Fukuoka, Japan Grass

Rather appropriately Erika finished off with a DF, she seemed strong in the rallies but Naomi was streets ahead on services.
Total points Naomi 70 Erika 63
Breaks Naomi 4/4 Erika 2/4
Aces Naomi 9 Erika 0
DFs Naomi 1 Erika 6
Service points won Naomi 38/61 Erika 40/72

Naomi's next opponent is either Yung-Jan Chan (TPE) 274 (CH=50 2007) or Imanishi Miharu (JPN) 229 (=CH)

Chan knocked out Mestach 1 129 in 3 sets

Well, that's an excellent win. Naomi should be delighted with her current form.

Just what is needed.

Great job, Naomi. ****

Unfortunately, EWS lost her doubles QF in a MTB to the top seeds.

Takes her just about to a CH or the exact same one more win to break the top 180

Another excellent win for Naomi That should take her back into the 180s (about 188, I think), she needing another win to take out her January 2012 career high. It won't be easy against Chan though - the Taiwanese player is ex-top 50, was runner-up at Nán·níng 25K two weeks ago and, as was mentioned above, upset the top seed in R2 here.

Excellent win.

Even if Naomi fails tomorrow then she will take out that CH very soon. Her next points to defend are from Wimbledon last year and she is almost certian to get WC's at the UK WTA grass court events prior to Wimbledon.

She has next weeks 50k as well so she should break the 150 mark now prior to Wimbledon.

Now that would be impressive !! Current WR 150 is on 445 ranking points.

True but she has the semi to come then next weeks 50k and two or three home
Challengers. I'd say on this form 100 points is possible.

I would also say it might have been better for her to stay for the last 25k on grass and skip French open qualies etc keep on grass where she excels that would keep her ideally placed for the home tournaments not many people will have had that much practise on it.

She has the best serve after Laura when it comes to our women when it all works and has a lot more potential than Tara and Sam not surprised to see her move well ahead of them.

Naomi breaks to love *1-0

Early df trouble for Naomi as two gift YJC 2 bps then a 3rd df forces her to save a 3rd bp. She saves a 4th then a 5th bp before eventually holding 2-0*

YJC holds from 30-30 *2-1

Another df but a couple of aces as Naomi holds from 40-40 3-1*

Naomi breaks to love in no time *4-1

A 5th df has Naomi in trouble at 0-30 which soon becomes 15-40. She saves one bp but a 6th df gifts YJC a break. 4-2*

Comfortable hold to 15 for YJC *4-3

NB holds to love 5-3*

Scoreboard gone crazy. Stats don't match the scores. Anyway, Naomi with a bp thanks to a couple of dfs from YJC . She breaks 6-3

----

Naomi holds to 40 despite her 7th df 1-0*

YJC holds to 30 *1-1

NB recovers from 0-30 to hold to 30 2-1*

I was getting myself some food so not following the score but YJC seems to have saved a bp before holding *2-2

Naomi apparently held to 15 going by the points totals 3-2*

NB with 2 bps. She takes the first. *4-2

Naomi with a quick hold to love 5-2*

YJC recovers from 15-30 to hold to 40 *5-3

Naomi into the final with a hold to love 6-3

7 dfs in 66 serves is rather ugly and 3 aces is on the low side but otherwise impressive stats from Naomi, saving 6/7 bps while taking 4/5. Won 43/66 on serve.

Naomi holds despite, unusually for her, three DFs.
Naomi 2-0*
