Not won a match since title in sharm. The Egypt 10ks don't seem to do anyone any favours I note it's almost like a 4rth tier British tour level.

What a horrible draw for our british girls :(

(7)Irena Pavlovic (FRA) v Samantha Murray (GBR)
(9)Naomi Broady (GBR) v Jade Windley (GBR)
(8)Ekaterina Bychkova (RUS) v Tara Moore (GBR)

at least we will have 1 in the second round :)

No new WTA rankings yet so I'll edit when they finally come out. As ricardo says, a pretty awful draw:

L32: Samantha Murray WR 229 v (7) Irena Pavlovic (FRA) WR 193 (CH 138 in 2012)

H2H 0-1 - Pavlovic won 2 & 2 at Felixstowe 25K but that was way back in 2006

L32: (9) Naomi Broady WR 218 v Jade Windley WR 287 (2)

H2H 4-2 (3-2 in seniors) but Jade has won the last two (2011 & 2012), with Naomi's last win dating back to 2009

L32: Tara Moore WR 250 v (8) Ekaterina Bychkova (RUS) WR 207 (CH 66 in 2006) (3)

H2H 0-1 - Bychkova won in 3 sets at Edgbaston 25K last year

Maybe not great, but I don't think really that horrible overall.

OK, Sam and Tara might have preferred the potential seed in R2, but I would have thought they had ambitions beyond R2. And being in low seeds' sections would on the face of it ( I haven't looked into the relevant players' form ) give them more chance of reaching at least the QFs and the points that come with that.

I assume Naomi has replaced an original seed ?

Sam takes the first bp of the contest to lead *5-4. She saves a bp before holding to take the opening set 6-4

Sam sees 2bps saved at 1-1* in the 2nd set. Sam up to 4 aces with 2 dfs. 2-2*  df trouble for Irena gifts Sam a bp which she takes for *3-2 Sam saves 4 bps during a ridiculously long game before eventually being broken for 3-3* Irena holds from 0-30 for *3-4 At which point I'm giving up.

--

Naomi with an early break for *3-1 which soon becomes 4-1*. Naomi gets the double break and takes the first set 6-2, conceding just 4 points on her serve

Naomi saves a bp at the start of the 2nd set before holding 1-0*

Jade saves 2 bps, eventually holding after a lengthy game 1-1* Big serving from Naomi now 7 aces 1 df she holds to love 2-1*

Naomi breaks to love *3-1 then holds to love 4-1*

Jade struggling, she's lost the last 16 points broken to love again. Naomi ahead *5-1

After a run of 19 points against her Jade finally wins one but can't stop Naomi taking the contest 6-2 6-1 with 9 aces 1 df compared to Jade's 0 aces 6 dfs

Life didn't get much better as Jade and Sam lost their doubles match in a MTB to the Japanese wildcard pair

Naomi and Eleni, however, managed to win theirs, also in a MTB.

Hmm, Sam and Jade in singles both replace their Johannesberg 24 ranking points from last year with 1 point. In doubles I notice on CR they are now behind Anna and Joss so now GB's second highest all Brit partnership and today won't help that.

I guess they've had better days.

It's been a horrible and expensive trip for Sam and Jade so far. I might have to repeat this for Tara after tomorrow(including eastern europe)
