Week 19 - Challenger (€42,500+H) - Rome, Italy (Clay)

Evo should be in the main draw too - not sure whether or not Kyle might have sneaked in too.

QR1: Lewis Burton WR 807 v Gibril Diarra (AUT) WR 824 (CH 771 last Aug)

I'm hoping so, no disrespect to Newcastle but I think it would be something of a backward step given his recent form.

If Kyle really was going to play in Newcastle, I'm sure he would have withdrawn in the correct fashion, just as he would if he had to withdraw because of an injury. Kyle is certainly not in the QD, and the MD is yet to be published.

Could somebody please explain  (or point to a link) the difference between the list of Alternates and the list of players who want to attempt to qualify?  Sometimes (and in desperation!) I look at MTF, but what is their source?  It would be much easier if tournament websites posted this info.

I suppose we are only at Challenger level though, and there is nobody around who know how to update the website.....

I notice that there are several byes in the QD in Aix which suprises me. French tournaments are usually bursting at the seams with natives...

No doubt Kyle will get a WC into the Wimbledon MD, so he is just trying to set a record for the shortest time period a guy has appeared in the MD of a Slam, a Masters, a regular ATP event, a challenger and a futures.

Now that would be a difficult stat to verify!

Now Priesty you're talking about one of the most prestigious tournaments of the year ;)

Hoping to see Kyle here over Newcastle after his last few performances. And unless there is some animosity that I am not aware of, surely it can do no harm to have as many brits together at a foreign challenger as possible.

QR1: Lewis Burton WR 807 lost to Gibril Diarra (AUT) WR 824 (CH 771 last Aug) by 4 & 4

3 bps each, Diarra saved all 3 on his serve and took 1 in each set.

L32: (7) Dan Evans WR 133 v (SE) Miloslav Mecir (SVK) WR 244 (CH 206 last Nov)

Nasty draw for Dan - Mecir has reached the Ostrava Challenger final this week, hence the SE.

Tough draw for Dan but nice to see him get the seeded position, and we can always hope that this difficult start spurs Evo to a great week!

Oh dear, think I might end up living to regret that remark when I go to the Aegon Classic next month....wink

Tough draw for Evo, and Mecir may be keen to gain some revenge for his dad whose Davis Cup team Dan played a part in vanquishing back in 2012.
