RE: Week 19 - Challenger ($50,000) - Gimcheon, Korea (Hard)

I was half watching live scores this morning.  There was a  monster game at 3-3 in the final set where there were many, many deuces and Dan had to save multiple break points.  The match was over very quickly after Dan got the hold.   Good job mate!

As well as being a set down and a break down in the 3rd set, Dan was also 2 match points down in the 2nd, so it was quite a win. With up to date rankings (Dan actually overtook his opponent in the rankings this morning):

L32: Dan Smethurst WR 249 beat Yang Tsung-Hua (TPE) WR 252 (CH 164 in 2012) by 2-6 7-5 6-3

He will play 5th seed Tatsuma Ito (JPN) or Matt Reid (AUS) next - they play their R1 match tomorrow.

A career high scalp (without checking I'm lazy) if Dan comes through this is it?

Almost, but not quite, Mr Lazy.

According to Helen Parish's table, last year Dan beat Peter Polansky (CAN), then WR 141.

Came down to the big points, unfortunately. Dan took two of his eight BP opportunities. Tatsuma took all four of his.

Still, an encouraging performance.

Ito (who beat Dan) has gone on to make the final where he'll play Muller who's on a great run (must have a good coach!)
