Am a bit confused but by my reckoning Dan S now 13th alt. but no Frenchmen ahead of him so the announcement of the Q wildcards (supposed to be today) won't make any difference. The MD wildcards should bump him up though.
I'm pretty lost though on the women. Again, 4 of the wildcards should free up more space in the qualification draw (Ferro gets one as the best 17 year-old and dong very well at the moment, and Amandine Hesse also gets one, . . . . say no more . . . so those two don't help). The others are Pauline Parmentier, Claire Feuerstein, Alizé Lim, Mathilde Johansson, which is good. But I still make it that Naomi is now about13th alt. However, if anyone has got more of a handle on it than me, please put it right !
So it's a bit touch and go (more go than touch, you might say).
Assuming tennisalternative (above) are spot on (which they weren't, just because it wasn't updated, but I think they are now) I can't see anyone else people have been talking about withdrawing.
Looking at the women's events next week, they seem to be really weak and good opportunities for some point gains.
Sam and Tara should be high seeds in Japan.
Manisha has found a weak entry in Israel and should be seeded and could go deep if the draw is kind
Turkey looks the weakest of all the events with unranked Natasha Hillyer half way up the acceptance list
Lucy Brown will be seeded in Egypt(will this week be the week she picks up singles points???) and Antonia Smallbone should make the main draw given the lack of entrants
I have my doubts whether Smethy will take a chance here, as its not the be and end all, also no prep on clay as Paul says, plus getting mentally prepared for something that is touch and go, added he would have to travel to Paris/ pay for accomodation etc., on top of that.
My best guess is he'll be heading to Notts/home for a rest before preparing for the grass court season.

Your argument makes a lot of sense, especially as (unlike most of the others with their League commitments) Dan doesn;t even have a good reason to be in France on Sunday, and a free return trip.
PS. although he's now 6th alt . . .
