If my sums are right one more win will see Naomi take out her CH of 185 with very little to defend til autumn. With 2 grass 50ks coming up its a reasonable target for top 150 by Wimbledon

From what I can tell, she'll need to reach the SF to get a new CH. She's on 306 points after Namangan with her lowest counting tournament contributing 8 ranking points.
WR185 last week was on 337 so Naomi will need the 42 points from the semi to take her up to 340.
I wouldn't say that really works as an excuse a couple of months on philwrig to be fair. There is a peak for everyone and sadly I think Sam and Jade are at theirs.
Sam had been looking to run into better form two or three weeks ago, so I think it is reasonable to question just how much earlier injury issues are still effecting her rather than more just showing variable form.
With Sam in particular I'd be very reluctant to call what Sam's peak is. When she's on form she's good for quite extended periods, looking a top 150 player and when she's on a bad run she hardly looks a top 300 player. Must be very frustrating these very different runs of form.
Tara's general form is perplexing, and she is normally more consistent. It does make me wonder if she is entirely healthy, given she has had illness issues as well as injury issues. Nothing has appeared on the face of it particularly serious, but anyway it's not going well just now. Maybe it is just really form / technical issues. Whatever, she can play much better.
Comparing Naomi and Tara over a longer period I wouldn't agree that Naomi is clearly the much better player, although she has looked it of late. All the best to Naomi, and she has a very good opportunity to significantly raise her ranking in the coming months. But also, Tara has manifestly shown better quality than of late, and hopefully she can find it again soon

Unless of course they are still playing through a little bit of pain.
