RE: Week 18 - Challenger ($50,000+H) - Ān-Níng, China (Clay)

Yes, rather disappointing for Oli, both on serve and return, but Coric is very good.

I continue to believe that he could be top 100 in time, if less sure about this than I once was.

My issues have previously been with some direct peer comparisons on the forum, when ages and rate of progress are hugely variable in say the 17 to 21 age group, indeed many players recently making their big breakthroughs later than that.

I have always seen Oli as a later maturer in a number of ways, though I would like to see him markedly push on this year.

Yeah Dan covers 8 points of his futures final 10 from last year. 2 challenger wins cover a futures title too so he might not drop back that much from the 220s over the summer if he can manage a win in each. And of course if he goes past the quarters in any he ll be heading towards the top 200. Big ask but will be interesting again.

Dan should break into the top 200 with very few points to defend, however i'm not convinced he will progress much further than that at the moment.

yes, I agree. We went through the maths of this before and it's extremely likely that Dan will break into the top 200 which will be great. But also extremely likely that he will have a big drop come July/August - his points are so concentrated during those weeks that it will be practically impossible to defend them.

However, looking at the posts from a year back, he's done way better than everyone expected, which is brilliant and well done to him. And maybe there are others just waiting to do the same.

Who knows maybe a good run here, a sneaky win at Winbledon and the points off may not be too bad! Viva Coxy

Yeah, you're 100% right - i.e. he'll drop but if he's already risen very nicely then who cares if he falls a bit? smile

How close is Dan S if he has entered ? He's not bad on clay.

He's entered. He's 21st alt. The French guys (who don't know anything more than anyone else but hey) think he'll probably get in.

Ah, thanks to Coup Droit on the 21/04 entries thread, I see that Dan S is 21st alt for RG qualifying.

Good for Dan, hope to see him push on and it would be awesome to see him push deep in the next few months to compensate for points due to come off.

Dan should have played his match by now, but there is no sign of it on ATP's Livescores.  I'm guessing that there is rain and they are making use of just one indoor court.  Anyone have any info?

They only seem to be playing on centre court. Perhaps it was raining earlier and the other courts aren't in good condition? Strange.
