RE: Week 18 - Challenger ($50,000) - Tallahassee, FL, USA (Clay)

L16: (7) James Ward WR 155 beat Jason Kubler (AUS) WR 355 (CH 268 in 2012) by 2-0 ret.

QF: (7) James Ward WR 155 v Robby Ginepri (USA) WR 442 (CH 15 in 2006)

H2H 1-1 - Ginepri won 3 & 5 at Queen's in 2010 but James beat him 5 & 4 in the Vancouver Challenger Final the following year.

what ever happened to Ginepri he was seeded at Wimbledon once

The thing I remember reading in one of his interviews is that he absolutely hated traveling. He was happy playing in the US but was unhappy elsewhere and so stopped and it went all a bit pear-shaped from then on.

I also remember he was involved in some sort of motorbike accident, or something similar, and had to have an op on his arm/shoulder and was out for a while.

Really pleased to see this result:

R1:  (PR) Adham El-Effendi (USA) & Darren Walsh CR 1379 (1029+350) defeated (WC) Collin Altamirano & Alex Rybakov (USA/USA) UNR by 6-4 7-6(1) smile

******

QF:  (PR) Adham El-Effendi (USA) & Darren Walsh CR 1379 (1029+350) vs Ilija Bozoljac & Michael Venus (SRB/NZL) CR 496 (428 - + 272 on Monday! - +68)

Bozo & Venus took out the Croat third seeds, Skugor & Veic, in three sets in the first round & will be no pushovers...

 You have that slightly wrong.

Skugor and Veic beat Venus and Bozoljac in the first round and then Walsh and El-Effendi beat Skugor and Veic 6-2 2-6 10-7.

They played both their first round and quarterfinal matches in the same day yesterday due to weather problems. So it is now;

SF: (PR) Adam El-Effendi (USA) & Darren Walsh (GBR) vs (WC) Bjorn Fratangelo (USA) & Mitchell Krueger (USA)

Ward against Kubler has been moved indoors which should greatly suit Ward as Kubler hasn't played a hard court tournament since Sep 2010.

Patrick Rourke on Twitter tells me that he expected Kubler not to last the match once it moved indoors because apparently he has problems with his knees on hard courts, which would explain the above.

It must be beyond frustrating to sign up for a clay court tournament then have it moved indoors in that case (not like me to feel sorry for an Aussie, I know wink but in this case ...)

That explains so much - he was a hell of a talent as a junior (on a par with Tomic at 16) but has never really pushed on from the 300-500 range at professional level. I don't really see how he'll ever have much of a career higher than high challenger level if he never plays on Hard. Huge shame really.

I've a nasty feeling Ginepri may have recaptured some of his best form - it is not often that a player drops just 3 games in 2 matches at Challenger level. You might counter with the assertion that Dino has only lost 2 games this week.....I'm sure you understand my line of thinking though.   There is a very high chance of rain in northern Florida today so we might be back inside.  The match is second on after 10.00am, so probably around 4.30 UK time.

I have a curiosity: why do you call James Ward "Dino"? I saw that also his mates (Colin Fleming etc...) call him this way.

With serve so far, 2-3  Ginepri to serve.  No shortage of BPs.

For the second time, Dino had 0-40 on the Ginepri serve and fails to break. 5-3 to Ginepri, Ward to Serve
