James Ward and Dave Rice should be in the main draw here.

QR1: Sean Thornley WR 1712 v Andrew Carter (USA) WR 982 (CH 797 last Jul)

Carter has lost his last 9 singles matches, while Sean is playing singles for the first time since Champaign Challenger qualifying last year and he needs to qualify here to avoid dropping off the ATP singles rankings on Monday week.

The winner will play 8th Q seed Nikita Kryvonos (USA) WR 875 (CH 389 in 2007) in QR2.

Oh dear, not a good time for the American to end his long losing streak

The main draw is now out:

L32: Dave Rice WR 285 v Antonio Veic (CRO) WR 259 (CH 119 in 2012)
L32: (7) James Ward WR 153 v (WC) Dennis Nevolo (USA) WR 456 (CH 453 last month)

Veic lost to James Ward in R2 in Sarasota last week.

Dave and Sean go from not getting into qualifying in week 1, to qualifying in week 2 and now being second seeds in the main draw in week 3. Crazy sport this tennis.

Yes, crazy. Such ( often predictable ) divergences, even within the same country, do emphasise how players need to keep on the ball and choose their events wisely.

Ward,yes. Dave Rice, no, I think i.e. yes for centre court and court 1 but no for court 5. (Haven't checked though)
