Not many English players have one four consecutive matches at this level on clay in the last decade. Obviously Dino; Tim did it at a much higher level ( RG 2004) but not since. Maybe Boggo did, or Dan Smethurst. Any ideas?
Anyway, good opportunity for Kyle to rack up some points. Hopefully the next round will be streamed.
Alex Ward did this at least twice last year.
And Oli reached the L16 last year after 3 rounds of qualifying but got into the main draw as a LL.
For those without a sub, the split with Beechy is said (by Leon Smith) to have been 'amicable' and OEM also says "This week, as he tries to make progress on the clay at an ATP Challenger tournament in Italy, with the French Open qualifiers a clear target, Edmund will have Greg Rusedski, the former British No 1, in his corner. It may well become a permanent arrangement" which implies it is being done on a trial basis at the moment.
I agree about Guez - classic French player who's been there or there abouts for ages (age 31 now, CH at 116 a couple of years back, making a decent living). But nothing out of the ordinary - just pretty solid all round. Will be a good match for Kyle.
There are no seeds left in Kyle's half of the draw.....
And as Bob in Spain says, this is challenger level; there are no easy matches and expectations for instant glory ought not to be heaped on him. He's performing very well but in my view the best bit of progress is consolidating his coaching relationship with Rusedski. He's now working with someone who really knows what it takes.

I agree that there are few easy matches at this level. Not any longer, anyway - in years gone by a sponsor of a Challenger tournament could "suggest" who they might give a WC to. I forget the the names of two English players who benefited from this and collected bakery produce in the tournament and the 12 months that followed (Somebody will remind me their names, I wonder what they are doing now?). Kyle's level is currently at least that of a top 150 player - a close 3 setter against Berrer last week and then handily beating Bedene this week. There is nobody left in his half of the draw that he is not capable of beating, though my disappointment will only be mild if he loses this afternoon. Brits are not always good at backing up a good win with a solid performance against a lesser player.
Paddy Power has Kyle at 4:7. If I was a betting man, I'd be happy to place a wager.... Anyway, good luck Kyle!
