RE: Week 17 - Challenger (€42,500) - Vercelli, Italy (Clay)

Good job he got those 3 breaks - after another extended changeover, Bedene breaks to 15 to get one of them back ...

6-3 5-1*

Excellent win for Kyle - 8 games in a row from *3-3 in the 1st set to virtually kill off the match and just 13 points dropped on serve.

L32: (Q) Kyle Edmund WR 292 beat (4) Aljaz Bedene (SLO) WR 112 (CH 71 in 2013) by 3 & 2

L16: (Q) Kyle Edmund WR 292 v David Guez (FRA) WR 161 (CH 116 in 2010)

Kyle finally home & dry by 3 & 2, though not without a bit of a battle in the final game (he was taken to deuce!). smile

It is clear the Kyle has learned a lot from Andy whilst training with him, including how to stress out your supporters just when you think everything is going to be plain sailing. However, this is a fabulous win over a very good player and now the chance of some serious points.

Kyle's serving stats were very good today and I anticipate his serve will only get better. After all, his new coach should know a thing or two about serving.

Is this just Kyle's 2nd win in a Challenger MD match ? I know he doesn't have many.

His 3rd in a Challenger main draw - Campozano in Trnava R1 in mid-September (the match before he lost to Bedene there) and Gombos in Brasov 2 weeks earlier, when he gave Haider-Maurer a walkover in R2.

Thanks. I knew he hadn't had too many. Let's hope there are more to come this week.

That's an incredible result given Bedene's run to round 3 in Miami. Well done KE!

Not many English players have one four consecutive matches at this level  on clay in the last decade. Obviously Dino; Tim did it at a much higher level ( RG 2004) but not since.  Maybe Boggo did, or Dan Smethurst.  Any ideas?

Anyway, good opportunity for Kyle to rack up some points. Hopefully the  next round will be streamed.

James Ward won a clay court title!

Great stuff Kyle. Is it wrong to be getting quite excited about Kyles potential?

Looks like a great win on paper, hopefully Kyle cab back it up with another top performance in the next round.

Bit of a surprise to see Greg wishing to commit himself fulltime on the road, but Kyle is a rare british talent so maybe not a huge surprise.

Alex Ward did this at least twice last year.
