Soto have Lewis Burton training with them for the clay court challenger season. I wonder which events they are planning and when? Marcus seems to be playing 10k futures in GB.
I personally would like to see Lewis reestablish some singles momentum, though I have no idea what his own ambitions are.
This is a guy, who after a slowish start to his seniors career, reached a CH of WR 626 just before his 20th birthday ( Luke Bambridge is currently WR 609 at age 19 ), but is currently WR 805. He is though still not that long turned 22 and we have been seeing some big rankings progress by Brits at age 23 / 24.
He seems to have always been a pretty good doubles player and I do appreciate that he has been having considerable dobles futures success in partnership with Marcus ( although just being honest, I am aware that I don't appreciate it as much as some would like ).
Egypt looks that weak next week such that Lucy should be second seed and Katie and Dasha will probably also be seeded. Even Alexandra Riley may get seeded.....
So i see Marcus was entered for the challenger at Aix en Provence, but the weather must be a deciding factor in whether he should be playing Newcastle or challenger qualifiers.
It would seem that Lewis is planning to play doubles(training in Spain) and from Gary's post partnering Marcus.
Marcus will have to play two singles matches and lose to sign one if he intends to play singles qualifiers.
Otherwise would it be worth just playing challenger doubles next week...........
Unfortunately (for me) it doesn't seem like Wardy is going to be in Madrid. It would be rather difficult given that he is still in the USA playing in Tallahassee, I guess.
I have been on the official Madrid Open website today and they have finally put up a list of those playing. The "Bio" write-up for Andy seems rather out of date. It still names Lendl as his coach, and despite a long list of Andy's achievements (it mentions 3 finals in GS events) there is no mention of either his US Open or Wimbledon victories. It also states that his last tournament victory was Queens 2013. In the "List of Titles"won page, the US open win is mentioned, but still no mention of Wimbledon.
These are traditionally just singles entries on the initial posts for the weekly entries threads, Gary ( and I imagine doubles would be rather difficult to list, certainly comprehensively ).
But certainly if singles info for Lewis has been missed and / or you'ed like to give us some doubles info, I'd say go for it.

Realise that Indy but just felt that this latest development in the race for the doubles WC cut off - CR 400 might be of interest !
Felt Marcus has demonstrated versality , dedication and not inconsiderable skill to lift 13 pro doubles in last 12 months . When you remember that he was down the 800s doubles and 1000 singles at end of 2012 it's a huge combined climb that I feel should be recognised .
At only 23 it's very early days as a doubles specialist when I would not expect Marcus to peak until at least 32
Lewis has thrown a spanner in the works and flown off to Roma with Evo leaving myself & bomb to pick up the pieces
So it's young jonny O mara again next week in Newcastle then a couple of challengers with fellow beckenhamian Sean Thornley ! Talk about musical chairs but I am rather looking forward to it !
Absolutely, Gary. As I said, my first post was in reponse to your first unedited rather shorter post. That post may have crossed with your next one, but we'll get there :)
