Oh dear. And I've just looked up Perez and discovered that he's not an underranked university graduate ... he's a local 16 year old. Admittedly a very good one, but one would rather hope that Mr Rice could win this.
And he did! Phew. Everybody wins. Young player shows that his QWC was justified and gains a sense that he can compete with a professional ... and Mr Rice goes on to the next round.

QR2: (q2) David Rice WR 286 vs Jeff Dadamo (USA) WR 592
Dadamo (CH 480 in 2012) won Houston Futures in October, beating Ed Corrie in the semis, then reached the QFs in Mansfield the following week before going on a 5-match losing streak, including his R1 loss in straight sets to Ed earlier this week.

L32: James Ward WR 162 v (7) Facundo Bagnis (ARG) WR 132 (CH 112 in Feb)
They have never met in singles before, though James beat him in doubles in Cuba in 2008. This one might be a bit harder, though James was the 2009 champion here so hopefully the courts suit him.
