Dave bagelled in the second set! disbelief  The only smidgeon of consolation is that he'll start the decider on his own service.

Perez breaks for *3-2 in the decider, Dave unable to convert points to break back. cry  *2-4, looking like "bye bye, Dave" as things stand at the moment.

Oh dear. And I've just looked up Perez and discovered that he's not an underranked university graduate ... he's a local 16 year old. Admittedly a very good one, but one would rather hope that Mr Rice could win this.

phew-941.gif Dave eventually does another of his Houdini turns:

QR1:  (q2) David Rice WR 286 defeated (qWC) Alfredo Perez (USA) WR 1697 by 6-2 0-6 6-4 smile

Mitch Krueger or Jeff Dadamo in QR2, probably the latter.

And he did! Phew. Everybody wins. Young player shows that his QWC was justified and gains a sense that he can compete with a professional ... and Mr Rice goes on to the next round.

Our Dave, bless him - the king of making the 'easy' seem 'unbearably difficult' :)

Dadamo (CH 480 in 2012) won Houston Futures in October, beating Ed Corrie in the semis, then reached the QFs in Mansfield the following week before going on a 5-match losing streak, including his R1 loss in straight sets to Ed earlier this week.

L32: James Ward WR 162 v (7) Facundo Bagnis (ARG) WR 132 (CH 112 in Feb)

They have never met in singles before, though James beat him in doubles in Cuba in 2008. This one might be a bit harder, though James was the 2009 champion here so hopefully the courts suit him.
