L16: (4) Dave Rice WR 286 lost to (Q) Kyle McMorrow (USA) WR 796 (= CH) by 2 & 3
L16: (8) Ed Corrie WR 348 lost to (WC) Chris Wettengel (USA) UNR (CH 548 in 2007) by 4-6 6-1 6-3
L16: (2) Dan Smethurst WR 272 beat Jean-Yves Aubone (USA) WR 692 (CH 475 in 2009) by 4 & 2
QF: (2) Dan Smethurst WR 272 v (WC) Chris Wettengel (USA) UNR (CH 548 in 2007)
Today's match was Dan's 70th in Challengers and Futures this year and he has won 60 of them, with an 86% record in both singles (36-6) and doubles (24-4)! His next mission, should he choose to accept it, is to prevent a hat-trick of Brit-bashes by Wettengel.

In terms of numbers of singles matches (I make it 43, Steven ... are you omitting the W/O?), he's just about on pace with Seņor Busta, who this time last year had played 45. He's not quite at the latter's W/L percentage (43-2) ... but 86% is fairly amazing!
That Mcmorrow man is upsetting my man Dave in the doubles too - I could grow really rather antsy towards him . .. Dave and Sean lost the first set 6-3, on serve for the second.
Ed and Josh though won the first 6-4 and also on serve 4-4 in the second.

Yes, I'm omitting the W/O - I think omitting W/Os but not retirements is the usual convention when counting matches played and it makes sense (to me, at least!)

Just checked (in response to a comment on Twitter) - Dan has played (and won) far more singles matches than any other player on the circuit this year - adding today's matches to yesterday's figures at www.coretennis.net/majic/pageServer/1d010000gn/en/2014-ATP-Tour--Challengers-and-ITF-Tennis-Stats.html, his 42 matches are 9 ahead of the second-busiest singles player in the world this year, who just happens to be Ed, who has one of the best records in tiebreaks (8-2)!
Among players who have played more than 20 matches this year, Dan's 2014 singles win percentage is now 5th= with Roger Federer, who admittedly has managed it at a much higher level!

I note that he is currently joint 119th in the race on 139 points ( helped by his 32 points from November's challenger SF sneaking in at the start ) with 100th ( well joint 99th ) being 160 points.
He will add another 15 points on Monday, taking him to 154 points then hopefully two counters the following Monday, this week's 15K and next week's Sarasota Challenger.
Of course the current 160 points for 100th place in the race will be moving upwards towards say the 180 to 190 range in two weeks. But it would be quite something if he could make the top 100 in the race so far into the season. Well, really not bad already !
With the start he's made, and ( as the difference between his ranking and race position implies ) relatively little to defend in the coming months, he really is setting himself up to not just be top 250, but looking to get into the top 200 later this year.
And you can certainly forget any chance that he won't end the season in the GB top 10, so that's one I got ever so slightly wrong.
After next week, I think you deserve a little rest, young man.
Top 4 Brits in the race :
8. Andy on 1065 points.
119. Dan S on 139 points ( + 15 + 3 and counting... )
