Week 15 - ITF ($15K) - Dakar, Senegal - Hard

There are only 25 players in the main draw here!

L16: (4) Emily Webley-Smith WR 416 v Chloé Paquet (FRA) WR 897 (CH 646 last Apr) or Janina Mistecky (GER) UNR

But unfortunate to get the best unseeded player in round 2, but hopefully she can come through and pick up some more points.

I think we found out once before (Laura Deigman in Sharm, if I remember right) that you don't get a point for going out in R2 if you had a bye in R1.

Indeed, I'm sure that's the case.

Still, the "best unseeded player" here is certainly still a player Emily should be beating in a relatively straightforward manner.

I would expect Em to win her second round match comfortably.

That seems a bit unfair after all it's not Ems fault there are not enough players especially as she has drawn a better player in R2.

Im also jealous of Steven after his little twitter chat with Em today.

I can't exactly see not getting 1 point ( and she should get more anyway ) remotely effecting Emily any time soon given that she already has 17 non counting 1 pointers :)

Paquet got a walkover in R1, so:

L16: (4) Emily Webley-Smith WR 387 v Chloé Paquet (FRA) WR 895 (CH 646 last Apr)

Oh no

L16: (4) Emily Webley-Smith WR 387 lost to Chloé Paquet (FRA) WR 895 (CH 646 last Apr) by 2-6 7-5 6-2

I wish I could report the following stat in happier circumstances, but it's worth a mention anyway. Today marked a bit of a milestone for Emily - it's the 40th different country she has played in, taking into account WTAs and senior and junior ITFs.

She had been reporting how tired she'd been of late, and this was another short turnaround for a decent length journey.

With the ebola outbreak spreading to northern Guniea, this might not be the worst venue at the moment to be leaving early!

I knew I was right to be worried about that one. Paquet was the one player I wanted Em to avoid in her quarter before the draw came out as she struck me as being the only one capable of beating her before the semis. Still disappointing though.

What a shame. Points for a semi here would have been fantastic to help her close back in on the top 350. Hope she can win the doubles.

Sounds like lady luck left Em in the cold today. Had two match points, feels she got a bad call on one and a dead net cord on the other. Suffering with a chest infection too :(

Poor girl. Needs a couple of weeks rest I think.

Poor Em.

Chole Paquet is nothing special, went down last year, no great results, got beaten by Manisha a month or so ago (not that that means she's chopped liver, of course!).

But if Em was not too well and had a bit of bad luck, these things happen. Real shame though . . .

NB Em won her doubles 6-0 6-0 smile
