So glad to get back and see that Katy has stopped Nora in her tracks. Partly for Katy and partly for poor Rona who would have felt as sick as a parrot if the girl she beat in the qualies had gone on to make the semi-finals of the main draw!
NB excellent analysis by paulisi earlier on. Yes, it's true that this 10k has, in some ways, been a little disappointing but the women are getting the right matches, at the right level, and several will be very pleased with their showing, and that's the way that progress is made.
As paulisi says, hopefully today's win will take Katy into the top 500 on Monday week - it's touch and go at the moment though (she'd be about 495 in this week's list), but another win would make sure.
QF: (8) Katy Dunne WR 508 beat (LL) Nora Niedmers (GER) WR 1124 (CH 1117 in Mar) by 7-6(3) 6-3
SF: (8) Katy Dunne WR 508 v (7) Klaartje Liebens (BEL) WR 431 (CH 424 last month)
H2H 1-0 - Katy won 3 & 0 to win a title in Sharm el Sheikh in December

Hopefully. It is though matches Katy should be winning, though the win over Katie in R2 seemed rather impressive. But she had been losing some unexpected matches. Be good if she can get her season really going.
I think it's maybe slightly unfair to say Katy 'should' be winning these matches.
I know she's now WR 500 or so. But 52 weeks ago she was unranked. In fact, until last autumn she had a barely a point. (I realise that she a junior and so hadn't been on tour as such). But I guess what I mean is that if you rise very quickly, it's never going to be completely plain sailing to establish yourself as a 'genuine' WR 500, say. Of course, equally, she might also have a big jump up to WR400 or better. Her ranking is rather 'unstable' - it's all a bit unknown.
But, obviously, net net, it's great she's having a good tournament and let's hope it carries on.
Good to see that the generally refreshingly honest Katy ( in truth most of our players seem to be ) is not too down about that defeat. No "arrrghhhh!!!"s :)
