RE: Week 15 - ITF ($10K) - Gloucester, UK - Hard

So much for needing more 10Ks to give the lower-ranked Brits more chances of picking up more wins ... though of course, if there were more home 10Ks, more GB women might be playing regularly, which would certainly help.

L16: Lucy Brown WR 643 lost to (1) Hiroki Kuwata (JPN) WR 261 (= CH) by 1 & 2
L16: (Q) Harriet Dart WR 1028 lost to (6) Sviatlana Pirazhenka (BLR) WR 427 (CH 417 in Mar) by 6-1 4-6 6-3
L16: (8) Katy Dunne WR 508 beat Katie Boulter WR 783 by 1 & 2
L16: (2) Jade Windley WR 279 lost to (LL) Nora Niedmers (GER) WR 1124 (CH 1117 in Mar) by 4 & 2

QF: (8) Katy Dunne WR 508 v (LL) Nora Niedmers (GER) WR 1124 (CH 1117 in Mar)

I'll re-iterate my point about 10K's

25K and higher are less and less frequent in Europe and it is harder to get into the entry lists. Of the domestic players:

Laura - playing main tour when fit
Joko/Hev - should be playing mix of main tour and 50K+ challengers

Naomi/Sam/Tara - should be playing the 25K circuit

Jade will play a mix of 10K and 25K - possibly more 10K if she struggles to defend her big points that are due to come off

Lisa - is coming back from injury and will need to start at 10K's and see how it goes

Emily and Mandy are unlikely to support domestic events unless there is little alternative

Anna S is in a quandry as she is specialising in doubles and may just use to fund further trips

Katy/Lucy/Manisha/Katie B/Dasha/Jess S/Freya/Harriet/Fran/Eden/Lauren/Beth/Jasmine and Jazzamay should all benefit from 10K

As for the rest - Georgia and Anna F - not sure what is happening tennis wise, study may be getting in the way.

Eleanor & Laura D - seems to be playing abroad when fit

Jess Ren and Nicole Petersen seem to have gone missing.

Lots of the junior players will benefit from playing domestic 10Ks - Eden R, Izzy, Maia, Lana, Emily etc

So in summary the 25K's are supporting 3 girls plus any WC's and qualifiers, whereas the 10K list could be up 16+ girls.

The most cost effective exercise is to switch the tournament ratio round as we currently have 8 x 25K and 4 x 10K =200K prizemoney

to: 10 x 10K and 4x 25K

2 more tournaments and a better spread for the rankings.

This can be changed if the ranking spread changes.

The issue is that there are fewer events at $25k and above which is pushing up the standard at $10ks as players would would traditionally have stuck to $25ks drop down to get to play somewhere. In particular, the drought of $50k, $75k and $100k events means that what fewer $25k events that are become much stronger than in the past

in dubs we're garanteed 3 of the four finalists

jade & Katie gave a walkover to Rona & louise - further fuel to sugests an injury or ailmant for jade
sara beth & Katy defeated jasmine amber & georgina: 6-1 6-2
harriett & pirazhenka defeated Manisha & martinich: 6-3 7-5
lucy & Melander defeated farah and olivia: 6-2 6-0

SF
lucy & Melander [1] vs harriett & pirazhenka [3]
Rona & louise vs. sara beth & Katy [4]

Nice to see Katy winning again singles and doubles. I guess she had a choice of doubles partners having won with both Beth and Harriet, but partners Beth this week.

With Jade and Katie out the draw,it is wide open. I suspect the final will be Beth & Katy v Harriet and Pirazhenka.

Nice to see Rona making some wins even if it is doubles.

Hasn't gone very well, but I certainly agree with paulisi that GB should have more 10Ks. The guys have loads of them, whilst the girls ate left with mainly 25Ks, which really benefit very few of our players or even give them compeitive matches ( even first round qualifying generly involvrs playing quite a high ranked qualifying seed ).

I agree we are short of 25K tournaments and above in Europe generally ( so there should we wider dialogue about that, and yes, there are constant reasonably cheap 10Ks going on almost constantly in Egypt and Turkey ( do the LTA ever subsidise groups to play there ? ). But c'mon LTA, some more home 10Ks !

Ah, poor Jade, having a few issues lately, thankfully none apparently particularly serious. But just making things a bit stop / start.

They could even add in some 15Ks to make say 4 x 25K plus 4 x 15K plus 8 x 10K which would amount to the same 240K total as present, though it would involve more management expenditure.

Good thinking - 15K's could be the way to go to attract the Katy's, Anna's and the three 25K girls

katy wins 7-6(3) 6-3
i think she'll be especialy pleased with just the one DF in 11 service games considering her recent troubles their and stated determination to correct the service flaws

Nice to see Katy back and winning points again. She should have a career high ranking and a 4 at the start when they get added.
