Not sure JWH was listening :(

Started well, at least one break up, and then lost the first set 6-4 :(

Yes, 1 break - he was 3-0* up but JPG won 6 of the next 7 games to take the set

Oli and Ashley are in the same quarter. James draws the shortest straw in R1 again ...

L32: James Marsalek WR 609 v (5) Marek Semjan (SVK) WR 359 (CH 218 in 2010)
L32: (4) Oli Golding WR 350 v (JE) Michael Mmoh (USA) UNR (16yo junior WR 9)
L32: (7) Ashley Hewitt WR 409 v (WC) Abdulla Al-Jufairi (QAT) UNR (16yo)
L32: Liam Broady WR 466 v (6) Ivo Klec (SVK) WR 393 (CH 184 in 2006)
L32: Luke Bambridge WR 608 v (Q) Javier Pulgar-García (ESP) WR 1077 (CH 1074 in Feb)

James v Semjan H2H 0-1 - QFs here (Doha) in 2012 - Semjan won a close one 4-6 7-5 7-6(4)

Been a bad few weeks for JWH, then?

Not been much of a 2014 really at all for JWH. Which is why I wanted to see a clear victory for him today, but actually feared something else.

The guy clearly has many things that impress folk, who have seen him live ( I haven't ), but he looks to be struggling to put it all together. Still got much time on his side, but would be good to be seeing better results.

Yes, not the greatest first quarter cry

I wonder if the change of coaching/living set-up etc. has had an effect. He;s been at Soto a long time and now has recently moved to NTC, so new place?, new coaches?, new advice? Maybe there's an adjustment time that's needed - it's never easy if you are suddenly getting new stuff to think about and concentrate on. Maybe NTC is proving tricky (a la Cameron Norrie???).

Or maybe he's just not playing very well. As everyone knows, I'm a mega fan but there's no denying it's been a rather sad start to 2104. Good job Luke (number two fave in that group) has been picking up some of the slack smile
