GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
Q1: CHRISTIE, Freya (GBR) 1018 lost to KERKHOVE, Lesley (NED) 4 243 5-7 5-7
A tremendous effort from Freya but just a step too far. She does look as if she should be much higher in the rankings.
well done to the three winners and to players like Freya and Lauren and Abigail (and indeed others) who posted very good scores.
to my mind it just reinforces the need for 10ks.
Putting Freya against the WR 243 or Abi against the WR 705 is not really what it should be about (although good experience of course). Would be nice to see them play something a little bit 'ambitious' but not SO far removed from their current level.
Yep, the way these 25Ks work, all the lower ranked (and unranked ) Brits in qualifying automatically play a much higher ranked qualifying seed, they basically can't get an easy / lucky draw.
So time after time we have a list of mismatches. Yes, I am sure some benefit from the "experience" and already this year ee have had quite a lot of "good efforts" ( I detect clloser scores than generally last year ), I am still with these that think GB should put on some more 10Ks.
I am not saying really radical changes, and I accept that in some ways GB is correcting a 25K / 10K imbalance in Europe generally, but yes a few more GB 10Ks please.
