I wondered if Haviland would give Dan any problems - he was top 600 in 2004 and has hardly played on the circuit since then, but probably has been playing other types of competition.
In the QFs, Dan will play Jared Donaldson (USA) WR 587 (= CH), a 17-year-old who was a top 120 junior early last year and upset the 5th seed in R1 here and spent the off-season training with Fed in Dubai - http://tenniskalamazoo.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/training-with-federer-jared-donaldson.html

I wonder if Josh is having a bad day or if you can't even begin to trust the rankings of Americans outside the top 500/1000 - Smith is serving for the 1st set. 4-5*

Bad day for Josh. If someone had said there'd be one Brit in that QF that could have had two or none, who'd have thought it would be Danny ...

Incidentally, in case anyone was wondering why Dimitar Kutrovsky hadn't returned to Texas with his former teammates, he's playing second singles for Bulgaria in Davis Cup (Group II playoffs), where he has just won against Teddy Angelinos. First singles (he must have decided he couldn't face the ignominy of his team going down to Gp III) is Dimitrov, which does rather provide a little lift to the team.
