Is it unsporting to be watching the screen going: "double fault, double fault, please double fault, double fault, nothing personal you understand, but just double fault, double fault double fault!"?

3 match points...
2 match points...

Woo Hoo!

GSM Windley 6-7(6) 6-2 7-5

Certainly I think she deesrved that based on last nights reports and the stats.

About 90 minutes before she has to do it all over again!

Quite an epic - so glad it had a happy ending

QR1: Jade Windley WR 287 beat Nicole Melichar (USA) WR 497 (CH 400 in 2012) 6-7(6) 6-2 7-5

QR2: Jade Windley WR 287 v (q4) Adriana Pérez (VEN) WR 187 (= CH)

$1000 and 10pts will do very nicely.

Another win and there is a £500 bonus from the LTA on offer.

Trip paid for, new CH and anything else is a bonus before dropping down to play in Gloucester.....

Really glad this has already worked for Jade.

It was a potentially good option against the home 25K option. But it could also have been a non rewarding expensive option. She who dared won !

...and could yet win more.

Add another $670 or so for doubles (Jade is in the draw with the player she has just beaten, Melichar, and R1 losers get around $1351 to share) and potentially another $600 (and 60 WTA doubles points) if they can beat the wild cards they have drawn in R1 and it's starting to look very worthwhile indeed

Of course, she could have drawn the best player in qualifying in QR1 and not got into the doubles draw, but there you go - she could have stayed at home and got the top seed in R1 in Edgbaston too - looking at the relative entry list strengths, I'd say the expected values for points and prize money gained were significantly higher here even before the draws came out.
