That's a shame but they have still come along way and now it's up to my lads to fly the flag

Sadly, not to be:

SF:  (3) Victor Baluda & Philipp Marx (RUS/GER) CR 227 (143+84) defeated Lewis Burton & Marcus Willis CR 538 (275+263) by 6-4 3-6 [10-6]

Still a tremendous effort from the boys this week in their first shot at a Challenger event.

First time I've seen these two play and they are a decent pair, but have a lot to work on to be up to the level of the Skupskis, never mind the top pairs.
lewis was the stronger player. Marcus struggled with his serve and both were just chipping back serves towards the end and getting punished.

My guys gutted after losing 3rd set championship tiebreak after level on games .

I am very proud of what our guys achieved this week have beaten 2 significantly higher ranked pairs , and gained valuable experience . Confident if we stay healthy will progress to top 100 doubles pair within 18 months .

Gonna rest Marcus & Lewis tomorrow in our inaugural aegon national tier match A1 v virgin active Surrey  but it will be  great to see Jamie Delgado & matt short debut tomorrow along side Harry Meehan & Toby martin .

I thought the guys played better than I'd expected. And certainly a lot better than they did in one of the 10ks that was streamed a month back or so.

If this is their first Challenger, then you can't expect them to immediately be the level of the top guys - they've got to have a bit of time to rise to it. I think they both looked very comfortable at this level, which presumably will get better and better, though not in a straight line, they'll be blips. And agree that Lewis played well.

Pity. But certainly an impressive debut challenger week for the boys. Now need this sort of competition more regularly.

Is that an April Fool's joke? Ringers wouldn't begin to cover it, if it's not.

A1 v Queens will be interesting for the doubles match. I think Burts and Willbomb might have a test there.

Ha ha yes

My heroes the Bryan Bros I nearly had a coronary when I saw that and squeeze in "Dom the bomb "

Theres only 1 consolation at the moment they are in the regional tier and so can't play us in  2014 so we better win this year .

Now in saying that Bryans can only win 1 doubles rubber and I will put bomb &  Jamie delgado in as our 2nd pair

1-1 in the doubles .

Watching colin Fleming yesterday don't get me wrong great doubles player but has not got the natural ability of Marcus Willis Who when I am finished with him will be the complete article on the doubles court .

biggrin No it's true but it's great news for Matt byford , and gary Lewis who are trying to raise the level of GB team tennis in contrast the premier indoors tennis tournament a national event was dire  my B team would have walked we wisely went to challengers instead .

Although I think you should only be allowed an agreed max no of foreign players .

Margin team county div 1-3 , regional tier and national tier is not unlike Davis cup .

Some of the GB teams are stronger than many national Davis cup teams .

In fact a A1 v Ireland Davis cup be interesting annual  fixture which I would love to get on !

I would like the guys on this forum to get behind Aegon national tier  its free to watch and stopping many of our players being lost to french league , helps future Davis cup ambitions .

At moment my team is all GB my idea is to use it to develop future Davis cup players For GB and maybe lreland .

Great TV coverage For davis cup and if we can win it then it's not going to do reputation of our sport any harm .

I met the father of the Bryan brothers nice guy and good like a lot of north Americans very good  businessman we must talk prior to start of next  years transfer market !  Lol

I already have the All GB dream team but that's given me an idea what about getting the bryan Bros and make it dream team full stop !
