Dave has only won points in one of Baumann's first five service games, but he managed to concentrate his effort perfectly - he got the break (in game 3) and is now serving for the 1st set, having only lost 5 points in his own first four service games.

Edit: break back point for Baumann .. saved .. set point Dave .. saved .. set point 2 .. 6-4

The 2nd set went to a tiebreak (no breaks) - Dave was 4-2 up when bet365 livescores gave up (ITF livescores having given up a couple of games earlier) but Baumann seems to have recovered to win the set - don't know the tiebreak score though.

Edit: Baumann won 5 of the last 6 points to win the tiebreak 7-5

ITF scores are stuck. Switching to BET365 shows Dave at MP. Come on.

Edit

Saved. 5-4* Deuce

This one he takes to win 6-4 in the 3rd.

Edit.

Beaten by 8 seconds. I really must learn to "cheat" and type out my comments BEFORE events actually happen - regardless of the fact that might be tempting fate smile

LOL @ Bob (and apologies!) ... my lunch was due to come out of the oven a minute after the match finished, so while I was noting down the events of what turned out to be the last game, I wanted to be prepared to tweet either way and unless I've already got the details written out like that, I invariably get something wrong when I'm in a hurry. I also didn't realise anyone else was following very closely until I posted after the final game.

Anyway, it was good of him to finish off Baumann before lunch got burnt to a cinder I'm impressed that he held his nerve and came through such a tight match too!

I get the impression that Dave is not playing as well as last year yet. He seems to have played an awful lot of tournaments this year, perhaps he needs some training weeks.

Much as I love him, I don't think Dave was even playing THAT well last year. He was just playing a lot better than his WR 788 ranking. It was very up and down. I saw him play one awful match that he won. There were a lot of Challenger qualifications, that boded well, and then no more. I think it's a bit harder now with his new ranking. And of course, even this year, he's still pretty up and down, with some good 10k results (wins and finals this year) but a few big disappointments. He does seem to like playing a lot of tournaments though, doubles and singles.
