RE: Week 11 - Challenger ($125,000+H) - Irving TX, USA (Hard)

Gee, I'm no apoligist for Evo, but let's give him a break, at least until we maybe hear more, and given he has had an injury.

Precisely. After all he pulled out of Indian Wells due to injury, so it's not impossible (in fact it's highly likely) he has not fully recovered.....and may have aggravated something again. Benefit of the doubt this time, methinks!

There was another exchange of breaks, then Kuznetsov held for *4-5 and unfortunately broke again to take the first set 4-6

Summary of the day:

QR1: (q1) Dan Evans WR 125 beat Juan Carlos Spir (COL) WR 431 (CH 428 in Feb) by 4 & 5
QR1: (wc) Samm Butler WR 1917 beat Vitalii Shcherba (UKR) WR 1637 (CH 1621 in Dec; 16yo world junior 227) by 3 & 2

QR2: (q1) Dan Evans WR 125 lost to John-Patrick Smith (AUS) WR 219 (CH 205 in Oct) by 7-6(1) 4-2 ret.
QR2: (wc) Samm Butler WR 1917 lost to (q2) Alex Kuznetsov (USA) WR 127 (CH 120 in Sep) by 4 & 2

Decent effort by Samm - to pre-qualify, win QR1 convincingly and take 6 games off a player in the top 150.

Just to be clear. All I said in my post was that the circumstances suggest other possibilities. I was certainly not making any accusation.

It was the left knee again that caused Dan to retire, not looking good, hope it gets sorted as soon as possible
