Perhaps, if the LTA is trying to raise money, they could hire Mr Golding out to drought-stricken countries. Hold a tennis tournament, invite Mr Golding, and the rain will follow. Nice little money-spinner!

Jesting aside, well done to Mr Golding.

Like minds, I nearly tweeted something similar this morning.

Oli up a break at *4-3 in the 2nd.

But having just come in and looked at the scores, it seems that breaking serve isn't the problem.

Oli breaks again to take the second set 6-3 and will serve first in the decider.

Nekic is 4/4 on BPs and Oli 4/7. Both have five holds apiece.

A hold and another break from Oli see him take the 2nd set 6-3

Into a decider. Hoping that Nekic will be feeling the effects of a long 3 setter earlier in the day.

Vamos Oli.

Now a break up in the decider. *3-1.

Just the 4 double faults so far (to 2 aces).

Well, that was harder than maybe it should have been, but it ended up being a good day for Oli on Crete - he has now won 12 singles matches in a row on the island

L32: (4) Oli Golding WR 352 beat (WC) Ioannis Stergiou (GRE) WR 1917 (CH 1803 in 2013) by 3 & 3

L16: (4) Oli Golding WR 352 beat Tim Nekic (GER) WR 559 (CH 556 in Feb) by 3-6 6-3 7-5

QF: (4) Oli Golding WR 352 v Danilo Petrovic (SRB) WR 552 (CH 394 in Jun)

Petrovic upset the 6th seed today.

I seem to recall Petrovic giving Ward a good battle in a Challenger SF last year... Or am I mis-remembering?

Ha, just noticed that according to the ITF score centre Nekic won his opener 5-1, 4-6, 6-4. That's not a typo. Oh dear.

Yes, a very strange match in which Wardy got bagelled in the 1st set, edged the 2nd in a tiebreak then handed out a bagel of his own in the 3rd!

Well done Oli.

So GB ranks 5 - 10 continue to progress in their various futures this week.

Are we seeing the foundations of what will be the year-end top 10 or who might break in ?
