RE: Week 10 - ATP Masters 1000 - Indian Wells, CA, USA (hard) - doubles

Not like me to post a doubles result wink but since nobody else seems to be around:

R1: Jonny Marray & Andy Murray CR 143 (43+100) beat Juan Mónaco & Gaël Monfils (ARG/FRA) UNR by 6-4 4-6 11:9

So tight throughout the MTB but a fantastic point to end it, by the sounds of it - and played in front of a capacity 6000 crowd!

Good stuff, and at least repeating winning R1 as last year gives young Murray a fighting chance of retaining a place in the top 100.

On a more serious note, good to see Andy getting in some doubles since I would think that he is very likely to be in doubles action in the Davis Cup in Italy.

Good of course also to see Dom winning, and the same team for Iraly ( as for the USA ) seems very possible with the same options left open ( at this stage, I'd still pick Dom over Ross and Jonny ).

(My) partisanship aside, I don't think today's results give much evidence of anything, singles and doubles-wise. The Fed/Wawrinka, Bopanna/Qureshi match was quite close (at least judging by the scoreline), but the top singles players won. Huey and Inglot's match against two strong singles players who are used to playing together was also close, but Huey and Inglot won. The rest of the winners are all pairings of the kind I personally think are among the strongest - a top singles player with a top doubles player, some of them beating teams of good singles players, and some beating fellow singles/doubles combinations.

At any rate, it's good fun to see all these various permutations and combinations - and well done to both of ours for winning!

PS: Does anyone else get the sense that Federer is just having a lot of fun right now? From an outsider's perspective, it seems as though having another Swiss do really well, a coach that he seems really to enjoy working with, and better health has put him in a good place not only to win, but also just to enjoy himself (with the winning obviously also helping the enjoyment and vice versa).

I was thinking the same. Would be really nice if Switzerland could win the Davis Cup (If Britain don't of course!)

That's 'cos it got under way far too late! wink  I was around for the start of the match, but then pushed off to bed before things got interesting.  Really pleased to log on & see that M n' M had triumphed, though!

At the risk of tempting fate, the story so far, i.e. 2/4:

R2:  (5) David Marrero & Fernando Verdasco (ESP/ESP) CR 18 (7+11) vs Treat Huey (PHI) & Dominic Inglot CR 48 (20+28)
R2:  Jonny Marray & Andy Murray CR 143 (43+100) vs (2) Alexander Peya & Bruno Soares (AUT/BRA) CR 6 (3+3)

R1:  Julien Benneteau & Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA/FRA) CR 44 (27+17) defeated Jamie Murray & John Peers (AUS) CR 65 (32+33) by 6-3 4-6 [10-5] cry

Great pity Jamie couldn't make it a winning comeback, but pretty close nevertheless!
