And a very positive write-up of Mr Smethurst on the occasion of his new Career High (scroll to end): challengertennis.wordpress.com/2014/03/03/the-w-a-t-c-h-list-whos-achieved-their-career-highs-this-week-and-how-they-got-there-13/

Great site, Spectator. Always really nice to hear a neutral guy praising and rooting for and believing in one of the GB players.

That's Challenger10s' blog, I've got him well trained wink No ... that might apply re. some Brits, but this is much better - he actually saw Dan play in the US.

Meanwhile, top seed Dancevic has withdrawn, leaving Ed as the only top 500 player in the top quarter

I see his place has been taken in the draw by the 17-year-old unranked Canuck, Jordan Sweeney. wink

Massive reward for Ed scraping through that 1st round. Semi finals for both should be a minimum now fingers crossed!

Peliwo is also 0-4 down in the third set so just possible that another top seed (and the top seed of the second quarter) is also on the way out.

Rich breaks again to take the opening set 6-3.

Peliwo goes down 1-6 in the third to a guy ranked in the 1300s. College player?

Manlow (we really CAN'T have another Dan although this one, at least, can lay best claim to the name 'Dan the Man') loses the first set 6-4. Still close . ..

Yes http://www.iuhoosiers.com/sports/m-tennis/mtt/juneau_isade00.html but still a big shock, I'd say.

All we need now is for Gigounon to lose and the Brits will be the top 3 seeds left! Unfortunately, it looks like Gigounon is about to hand out a bakery product to Kocevar-Desman in the 1st set though - he leads 5-0*

Dan doing really well.  6 games in the second set so at the worst will take it to a tie-break.

Lost 7-5 in the tie-break.  Nevertheless, a very good performance.
