Not to be.

(7) Dimitar Kutrovsky (BUL) WR 451 (CH 312 in 2012) d. (5) Ed Corrie WR 329 7-5, 6-3

I hadn't realised that Mr Kutrovsky had played for the University of Texas with Mr Corrie. Went to look up the rankings for their final year, which are interesting. Shows how many players from the university teams are on tour - and how many of the top 25 are at the very least quite competent Challengers players. Or, in the case of Mr Farah in particular, quite a bit more.

1. Robert Farah University of Southern California
2 55.34 John-Patrick Smith University of Tennessee
3 54.44 Henrique Cunha Duke University
4 49.12 Bradley Klahn Stanford University
5 48.62 Guillermo Gomez Georgia Tech
6 47.79 Chase Buchanan Ohio State University
7 43.44 Michael Shabaz University of Virginia
8 43.07 Dimitar Kutrovsky University of Texas
9 42.66 Steve Johnson University of Southern California
10 42.46 Eric Quigley University of Kentucky
11 41.81 Oleksandr Nedovyesov Oklahoma State University
12 41.62 Alexandre Lacroix University of Florida
13 39.25 Austen Childs University of Louisville
14 38.23 Tim Puetz Auburn University
15 36.45 Denes Lukacs Baylor University
16 36.03 Austin Krajicek Texas A&M University
17 35.11 Sanam Singh University of Virginia
18 32.18 Javier Garrapiz University of Georgia
19 26.36 Marcel Thiemann University of Mississippi
20 26.13 Raony Carvalho Texas Tech University
21 25.71 Pedro Zerbini California
22 24.93 Saketh Myneni University of Alabama
23 24.59 Ed Corrie University of Texas
24 23.59 Justin Kronauge Ohio State University
25 20.39 Marek Michalicka University of Wisconsin

Worryingly, scoreboard has been at 4-2 30-30 for quite a while.

Glad to hear that. I was worried that something had gone wrong and one of them might be injured. Thank you, Paulisi.

SF: (5) Ed Corrie WR 329 lost to (7) Dimitar Kutrovsky (BUL) WR 451 (CH 312 in 2012) by 5 & 3
SF: (4) Dan Smethurst WR 305 beat (6) Richard Gabb WR 430 by 2 & 2

FINAL: (4) Dan Smethurst WR 305 v (7) Dimitar Kutrovsky (BUL) WR 451 (CH 312 in 2012)

H2H 1-1 - Dan got thrashed 3 & 0 in Houston last October then beat him 7-6(2) 7-5 in Champaign the following month.

6 singles finals out of 6 for Dan this year ... 25 wins in 28 Futures singles matches this year ... and a place in the top 300 now definitely secured He will also move above Kyle and Dave into the GB top 5 on Monday week.

Based on where a given number of points gets you in the current list, Dan would be ranked around 282 if he loses tomorrow, 268 if he wins.

SC out having fun? That's what I should be doing - oops!

A tricky 1st set, but then (not for the first time this week) the Brits put their foot down ...

FINAL: (1) Ed Corrie & Dan Smethurst CR 581 (317+264) beat Kamil Pajkowski & Filip Peliwo (CAN/CAN) UNR by 7-6(4) 6-1

That's their 3rd doubles title of 2013 together, their 5th together overall and the 13th in total for each of them.

With double doubles titles for the last 2 weeks, all-GB men's doubles pairs have now won 10 Futures doubles titles in the first 10 weeks of 2014 ... and they didn't even get started until week 3!
