L32: (Q) Joel Cannell UNR v Juan-Samuel Arauzo-Martínez (ESP) WR 527 (= CH)
Well it could have been a worse draw - but not much. With two Q v Q matches, the was a chance for a much better draw. Bu Joel has done exceptionally well to get this far and has sprung some surprises. Let's hope he has another one up his sleeve.

Agreed - JSAM reached the Final in Loulé last month, losing in two tiebreaks to the player who beat Oli in 3 sets in the semis. For future reference, Joel seems to be (or have been) at the Barcelona Total Tennis Academy in Valldoreix http://www.barcelonatotaltennis.com/ - he's not on their list of players, but they've been tweeting about his run through qualies and just RTd one of mine about his R1 draw (which is how I 'found' them) - another of their players is the 2nd Q seed in Preston who got double bagelled by Clay Crawford today but they also claim a top 100 player, Sousa.

Joel came up in the junior thread when we were discussing rankings - he was one of only 2 British boys in the top 300 not in their final year of competition (poor compared to other countries). He's currently 171 but, given these results could presumably easily go higher and compete in the top events by next year.

In addition to the Barcelona tennis academy, the Justine Henin Academy account has also tweeted&facebooked about him and he is on their list of players with a video profile on their site.

Nice he seems to have a few people in his corner. Hope he can go well today.
