RE: Week 9 - ATP 500 Series - Acapulco (Hard) - Doubles

First set looks as if it was close: 7-6 (2) to Lopez and Mirnyi. Second set less so - currently 3-0 to Lopez/Mirnyi, with Huey and Inglot now serving.

Seems I jinxed the chances of Dom & TCH by saying what I did earlier.  Should've kept my big mouth shut! cry :

SF:  Feliciano López & Max Mirnyi (ESP/BLR) CR 152 (124+28) defeated (3) Treat Huey (PHI) & Dominic Inglot CR 55 (25+29) by 7-6(2) 6-1

Even so, Spectator, while I take your point about Mirnyi, sadly, the partnership with Jamie Murray a couple of years or so ago was one that "got away", wasn't it? hmm

Here's hoping Andy fares better later...

True about the "one that got away," alas. But I don't think anyone will hold you responsible for today's result

And it's not a bad situation to be in when we're disappointed that the team loses in the SF of a 500 tournament.

While I'd like to be hopeful (and will be so), I regard seedings in doubles as generally of limited utility;

I would suggest that the moment you get a good quality singles player involved the combined ranking for seeding purposes is actually worse than useless, it is completely and utterly misleading. This was one of those matches where if Lopez and Mirnyi clicked they were always likely to win.

I'd modify that only slightly - and say a good quality singles player who is also good at doubles. There are some singles players who, for whatever reason, don't do well in doubles. But yes, the combination of a good doubles player and a low-ranked (from a doubles perspective) but skilled singles/doubles players makes most seedings irrelevant.

I think the result would probably be unchanged whatever Stircrazy posted in the hours beforehand.

Big serving singles specialist with a vet doubles champ at the net, Lopez has nice volleys too
