Even so, Spectator, while I take your point about Mirnyi, sadly, the partnership with Jamie Murray a couple of years or so ago was one that "got away", wasn't it?
While I'd like to be hopeful (and will be so), I regard seedings in doubles as generally of limited utility;
I would suggest that the moment you get a good quality singles player involved the combined ranking for seeding purposes is actually worse than useless, it is completely and utterly misleading. This was one of those matches where if Lopez and Mirnyi clicked they were always likely to win.
I'd modify that only slightly - and say a good quality singles player who is also good at doubles. There are some singles players who, for whatever reason, don't do well in doubles. But yes, the combination of a good doubles player and a low-ranked (from a doubles perspective) but skilled singles/doubles players makes most seedings irrelevant.
