Or it might be a question of potential audiences? Big expat UK (Ward) and Indian (Devvarman) communities in Dubai. And while Tunisians may not be so numerous, Mr Jaziri is the highest-ranked ATP player from the Middle East and North Africa.
Sounds like this could be it. James Cluskey tweeted how did James get a wildcard and Stephanie Myles (Journalist) replied
"TD says no locals met criteria;went to Devvarman,Jaziri and Ward, who did,to please large local Indian, Arab, Brit communities"
"Also, perhaps Djokovic didn't ask for one for his little brother this time (altho he is there). Criteria issue there, too "
I'm assuming TD is Tennis Dubai. Don't know if she's accurate or where she got it from but it makes sense.
James is now first alternate for Indian Wells qualifying next week so he will definitely get in. He won't however be playing Miami qualifying after that, he is going to the Panama City challenger instead.
So very glad for Mr Ward! (And, like CD, so glad that I wasn't actually able to watch while it was happening. It would have been far too much added tension for a morning). Nice work.
