My mistake

It's still twice as many this year as last year - and we're still in February.  Let's hope there are a few more to come, starting with Youhzny

R1:  Roberto Bautista & Igor Sijsling (ESP/NED) CR 322 (218+104) defeated Jonny Marray & Dmitry Tursunov (RUS) CR 150 (44+106 by 6-3 4-6 [10-2]  bleh

Anyone happen to know why Jonny isn't playing with Paul again this week?

So all three WCs get the win today, with Devvarman and Jaziri now due to play each other in R2.

Wardy's reward for beating Youhzny would be a probably match up with Djokovic. But let's not get ahead of ourelves.

Didn't follow the TB - my nerves didn't hold up!

So pleased for James - this'll give him a real lift in terms of confidence and financially.

Thanks very much for all the commentary. Well done, James !

I saw he had won, although not the score, before I went back and read right through, so I knew he had it all under control ;)

Great win for Wardy and a nice chunk of points & prize money as well and not impossible against Youhzny in round 2

It seems we have two players vying for British number 2 who both bring their best to the bigger events which is great news for when they are there on ranking but just a bit frustrating when they can't seem to win the "easy" matches that will get them there!!

Think that may be the one from San Diego lol.

Ah, I did wonder, I must admit - and of course, Flembo's in Acapulco not Dubai at the moment, which clinches it.

Or it might be a question of potential audiences? Big expat UK (Ward) and Indian (Devvarman) communities in Dubai. And while Tunisians may not be so numerous, Mr Jaziri is the highest-ranked ATP player from the Middle East and North Africa.

Sounds like this could be it. James Cluskey tweeted how did James get a wildcard and Stephanie Myles (Journalist) replied

"TD says no locals met criteria;went to Devvarman,Jaziri and Ward, who did,to please large local Indian, Arab, Brit communities"

"Also, perhaps Djokovic didn't ask for one for his little brother this time (altho he is there). Criteria issue there, too "

I'm assuming TD is Tennis Dubai. Don't know if she's accurate or where she got it from but it makes sense.

TD would be Tournament Director. It's quite plausible that Stephanie could have found out from him or her - probably him given that it's Dubai.

Ahaha Thanks. That makes much more sense. I've actually seen TD used for Tournament Director before but didn't make the connection here. Oops
