Major credit to Wardy to win it in the TB, I mean if we'd taken a straw poll at the beginning of the TB, it would have taken a brave soul to plump for James.

Especially both times he went a mini-break down, and perhaps even more so after the first 2 match points went begging.
It does suggest though that there was no real choking involved at any point - just a very tight match between two players who both ran a bit hot and cold at different times but were basically very closely matched on the day. Hopefully coming through it will give James another big lift

Prompted by a question on Twitter, I've just realised that unless I've missed something, that's also Wardy's first ATP main tour main draw win outside the UK and first top level (ATP main draw or Davis Cup Group I or above) win on outdoor hard!
He has also now beaten two of the current Russian top 3 ... and of course he plays the remaining one in R2!
