Heather has recovered sufficiently from the ailment that caused her retirement in qualifying to take the court for doubles today with Kimiko D-K.
They last played together in Osaka and there reached the final. I seem to remember Heather did quite well in the single s there too.
All 3 of the other players have already played in singles today, and indeed Kimiko lost to Christina McHale who is now again on the other side of the net, with Ajla Tomljanovic.
A chance for Hev to help exact some swift revenge then.
Heather's doubles record is quite interesting, as she actually has a career losing record in the format, which certainly seemed contrary to my impression of things.
This despite 2 WTA titles and a couple of other finals.
Hopefully this match (and subsequent rounds ) will serve as a good way for Heather to get back to Midland form before qualifying at Indian Wells.
Set 1 All 4 players hold serve in the first round. Only one BP chance, in the first game - Hev & Kimi couldn't convert on the deuce point of McHale's service. 2-2*
4 more holds, no additional break points. 4-4*
2 BP for Hev & Kimi in McHales third service, at 40-30*, but each is saved despite both being on second serves. 4-5*
A first BP against Hev/Kimi, on the deuce point, means break point for McHale/Tomljanovic, but it is saved, and we're into a tie-break. 6-6
Long road back from the change of ends *1-5, and that translates in to a comprehnsive TB success for the Croatian/American pair 6-7(3)
Well, a very close set in which serve dominate. Hev & KDK had more BP and led on total points going in to the TB, but it got away from them right form the outset.
No need to be disheartened though, maybe they can take their chances this set.

Set 2 Hev & Kimi again scrap out a singular break point, at deuce on Christina's serve, and they convert for the first break of the match. *3-1
Dangnabbit! As is so often the case, the break is surrendered immediately, Heather broken to 15. 3-2*
More BP slide by for Hev & Kimiko in game 6; 2 on the Tomljanovic serve. By my calculation, Ajla had only lost a single point on her serve before this game in the match. All four players are now facing more pressure on their serves though. *3-3
3 chances in a row to earn the right to serve out the set at 40-15*, and the first is tucked away, as Christina is broken for the second time in a row. Serve it out, serve it out... please don't give it right back this time! *5-3
Yes indeedy, it's there, and we'll be going to the MTB decider 6-7(3) 6-3

Extremely hard to see that being overhauled, but, Jovana Jaksic did just save 14 match points last week in the final of Suprise $25K against Tamira Paszek, so here's hoping... 1-7* *1-8 3-8* come back's on 3-9* or not... *4-9
Rats!
One of 'those' matches. Hev & Kimi win more points, have more break points, more breaks, in fact don't serve a single DF, and are only broken the once in the match... but lose
GSM McHale/Tomljanovic 7-6(3) 3-6 [10-4]
Edit: Correct a factual inaccuracy about the stats.

Well, at least this would suggest that Heather is suffering no lingering ill effects from her travails earlier in the week, and so she can head to Indian Wells with extra time to acclimatise and make the most of her chances there.
Perhaps a blessing in disguise.
