The GB 10K futures are carrying on from last year in so much giving to GB players. Well done, lads.
I do still really wish ( like apparently everyone here that has expressed a view ) that more balance had been introduced this year with maybe more 15Ks but particularly more challengers.
Several forum users, including Bob and 1 or 2 others had put this to a number of people in the LTA system, and the general feedback was that once we had a large enough cadre of borderline Challenger level players, the LTA would indeed swich the GB tourament profile more towards $15ks and CH events...........
........arguably, we are already there. I'd like to think we will some changes when the H2 GB tournaments list is released in a few months time.
I agree with the current structure it's done well for Dan S, Dave Rice Ed Corrie, Ashley, Marcus etc so perhaps we do have enough. The thing I find strange is the amount of 25k women's we have when there are so few that can win any main draw games. Surely less 25s and more 10s and 15s would be a better idea.
Interesting start - Ed actually won the first 10 points of the Final and was 3-1* up after 4 games but Dan has since won 4 games in a row and is about to serve for the 1st set at *5-3

The current structure allows British players of a certain standard to pick up decent points largely be beating their compatriots. Whether this does them any real good is debatable.
Dan serving at 6-3 *5-2 - 40-0 but doesn't get a 1st serve in on any of them (dfing on the 2nd) and it's now deuce!
In stark contrast, an ace brings up match point no. 4 but Ed saves that too!
Match point no. 5 ...
FINAL: (2) Daniel Smethurst WR 330 beat (1) Ed Corrie WR 337 by 3 & 2
Congrats to Dan on his 9th Futures singles title. He has now won 26 of his last 30 singles matches (or 30/34 including British Tour) and should rise to a new career high around 310 (147 points is currently enough for WR 308) on Monday week.

Well done, Mr Smethurst. And well done Spud, CD and Steven, who were the three board members who had him in their predicted top ten lists for this year (CD at number 5, ranked 250). Good to know that some of our most expert posters are some of our most expert prognosticators, too.
